Today we’d like to introduce you to $uga OTB.
Hi $uga, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Music has always been a part of my life — it’s in my blood, it’s in my spirit, and it’s how I’ve always expressed myself. From a young age, I was surrounded by it. I grew up in the choir at school and church, and my mom was actually the choir director and a minister along with my father, so I was immersed in music from all sides. But it didn’t stop there — anything creative, whether it was drawing, dancing, or performing, I was in it. Art has always been my safe space.
I officially started rapping in 2018, and a year later, I dropped my first single, Talk My Sh**, in 2019. That was the beginning of me stepping into my voice and into the world as an artist. Since then, I’ve had the blessing of performing on different stages, doing interviews, and building my presence as a creative — all while staying true to myself and my journey.
Fast forward to today, I’m a solo artist that is a part of a collective of talented individuals called The Movement, and I’m proud to say I’m one of the raptresses bringing heat to the table. I am also in school to become an audio engineer at the Atlanta Institute of Music and Media. Right now, I’m preparing to release my very first mixtape on November 6th. I haven’t revealed the title yet — but just know, when it drops, the world will feel it. This project represents a new level for me, and it’s just the beginning of everything I’m meant to do.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Whew! It definitely has not been a smooth road, but its been a necessary one. The last five years in Atlanta have been filled with some of the highest highs and lowest lows. I moved from my home in Texas, where I lived for 20 years, and life had a way of moving faster than I expected. I ended up having to return to my hometown due to my grandmother falling ill and some financial challenges, and that shift alone shook me to my core.
I’ve dealt with near eviction, wrongful job termination, and I had to hustle just to make it through — Ubering, plasma, selling clothes, taking clientele for makeup, grinding, and doing whatever I had to do to survive while still chasing my dreams and not compromising my morals and values. There were times I didn’t know how I was going to make it, but every obstacle forced me to grow in ways I never imagined. It tested me, stretched me, and honestly prepared me for what God is preparing for me.
But through it all, my faith in God never wavered. Even in the darkest seasons, I knew He was ordering my steps and preparing a table for me in the presence of every trial. That trust in Him kept me grounded when everything around me felt unstable. I truly believe He used those hard moments to refine me and get me ready for the platform and blessings I’m walking into now.
All of those experiences — the pain, the pressure, the perseverance — they’re all pouring into my first mixtape. It’s more than just music; it’s my testimony, it’s my journey that only God and myself brought through. Every track is a piece of my story and who I am, and I want people to hear it and feel empowered to keep going, no matter what they’re facing. This project is me saying, “Look what God brought me through, look what I did — and We’re not done yet.”
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a musician — but above all, I’m a lyricist. I specialize in turning life experiences into bars that hit deep and punchlines that leave people rewinding just to catch what I said. I’m known for my clever wordplay, my playa-esque boss lady persona, with a face that’s sweet as ever — hence the name $uga OTB. I bring a duality that’s smooth but sharp, soft but savage — and that balance is what sets me apart.
Even without a full project or a music video out yet, I’ve still had major opportunities come my way. I’ve auditioned for TV shows, performed for celebrities, done interviews, and made some incredible connections in this industry — all off the strength of my pen and presence alone. That’s why I know when I drop this first mixtape on November 6th, paired with visuals and all, it’s going to take things to a whole new level.
What I’m most proud of is everything I’ve created and everything I’m building — even in the face of challenges. None of this has been easy, but it’s been possible. I’ve done the inner work, stayed consistent, and made the sacrifices needed to step into who I’m called to be. The world is going to know the name $uga OTB — and not just hear it, but feel it.
How do you define success?
I define success through a few key pillars: my faith, my work ethic, and real-life results. If I’m walking in my purpose, providing for my loved ones, staying consistent, seeing growth, and impacting lives everyday — that’s success to me. But it’s not just about accomplishments on paper. Success is also about my peace, my joy, and how aligned I feel with what I’m building.
It’s about whether the moves I’m making are leading me closer to the legacy I want to leave behind — not just as an artist, but as a black woman, a creator, and a voice for those who need one. If what I’m doing today plants seeds for a future that honors who I am and blesses others along the way, then I know I’m succeeding.
