Meet Unique Rembert

Today we’d like to introduce you to Unique Rembert.

Hi Unique, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I am originally from Cleveland OH! There I was a Track athlete for 13 years. After deciding to not run in college, I sort of lost myself and started to question my place post Kent State University. After graduating in 2017, I reached out to my sister Meka Rembert, who was a current Orangetheory Fitness Coach for Houston TX. She invited me to come train under her while she developed Dioko Fitness and Youth Sports performance. I stayed and learned as much as I could from her for 4 months. Shortly after Hurricane Harvey hit, I moved back to Ohio. After moving back, I auditioned for a new Orangetheory Fitness close to my house at the time. Unfortunately, I did not make the cut. But all that did was motivate me to learn more over the next year and try again! At the time in 2019, there were no openings in Stow OH, so I took a leap of faith and applied to an Orangetheory in Atlanta GA via Indeed. Since I lived in OH for the audition process, I had to fly down and stay in a hotel for a week. I wanted this job so bad. But, after seven days of auditioning, I passed! Two weeks later I moved down to ATL to start my new career! I have been with OTF for almost four years now, three as a coach and eight months as the Head Coach of West Midtown OTF!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Life is full of struggles and obstacles. Developing confidence and the proper leadership skills to guide my team at West Midtown are some of the more recent obstacles. I moved down here at 22 and my father passed away a month into that move. It took everything for me to not run back home to familiar territory. But I knew my Dad would have wanted me to see this new journey through. I struggled for a LONG time dealing with his untimely death, that was the biggest obstacle I had. But my fiancee’ was by my side the entire time. He helped me develop into the person I am today and I could not be more excited to be marrying him next May!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a Head Coach at Orangetheory Fitness West Midtown. It’s my dream job! Orangetheory Fitness is a 1-hour workout that I coach on a mic. I can have up to 39 members in my class. We have Rowers, Treadmills, and a Weight floor station that we work through within the hour. The best part is that I work with ALL fitness levels. From 16-76, I see all types of people. Inspiring people and helping them achieve their fitness goals is the best part of my day. I have 2 coaches under me, Andrew and Emel who are nothing short of amazing. They are a huge part of the West Midtown Culture. Our studio is one of the most diverse in the city. We have so many members from all different racial backgrounds. I am most proud of creating a safe space at West Midtown for our members to come and workout in. The West Midtown members have expressed to me multiple times that our studio isn’t like any other studio they’ve been to because of the culture. So every day myself Emel and Andrew make sure we are doing our part to keep that culture.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
Honestly I don’t have any favorite books or apps. But my favorite Podcast is “Small Doses with Amanda Seales” I have learned so much from her. She got me through my first year in ATL.
