Today we’d like to introduce you to Valencia Mckinney.
Valencia, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Started as a stylist as young as 14 years of age. Entered my first salon in Montgomery, Alabama at 19 years old. Have always had a very deep rooted passion for hair. Since have owned and operated three salons. Staffed at as many as 13 Hairstylists, makeup artists, nail technicians and esthetician’s. Traveled from many states to teach classes and do speaking engagements. I am multi-talented in so many things in the industry of beauty. I am a teacher, motivational speaker, wig maker, brand builder and activist.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
There have truly been many hills to climb and losses. Yet I continue on to see just what’s in store for me. I’ve opened and closed business lost friends and family. Would I do it all over again? Yes. Because I am the image of what real life is.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Luxe – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
My business is Luxe. I have branded several hair maintenance products and beauty products. I specialize in but not limited to hair extensions and wigs. The most thing I am proud of with Luxe is how it continues to evolve. I allowed myself to offer things that no other brand or stylist is offering. To set myself apart from the norm. To be noticed in a saturated industry of beauty.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Growth. I continue to strive to create things people need. Give a solution to their problem. Ease the minds of those whom lack education or knowledge about the beauty industry. Equip those that don’t have the help.
