Today we’d like to introduce you to Vanesa Sonea.
Hi Vanesa, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Throughout my whole life, I have always had a passion to create. Being in front of the camera or simply making a concept come to life brought me such joy. I loved being photographed for fun, but it was not until I got to college that I realized I could do it professionally as well. I attended Georgia State University and I quickly saw how many students had the same creative passion as I did. Being in the heart of downtown Atlanta, I was presented with so many opportunities. I got signed to an agency, learned so much more about the industry and started booking jobs. Eventually, I started freelance modeling and perfecting my craft. I gained experience in many different areas including print, editorial, commercial, runway, trade shows, promotional, parts, extra work, and music videos. I also pursued a degree in Business Administration focused in Marketing. Currently, I work as a Marketing Assistant for a tech company and I am multi-signed with modeling agencies based in Atlanta, Chicago, and California.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It hasn’t always been smooth sailing, there were many obstacles I had to overcome. Being in an industry based on looks and first impressions, comparison and a strive for perfection is constantly on my mind. I learned not to compare myself to others knowing that everyone has their own unique qualities and attributes that make them who they are. Rejection was also a big part of my journey- there were tons of castings and jobs that I did not land, which at times made me feel like I was not good enough, but then I realized that rejection is redirection, and better opportunities would present themselves – which they did!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Although I have experience in many different types of modeling, I specialize in print work, trade shows, and promotional modeling. I absolutely love working with different brands and designers to help promote or be the face of their businesses. I feel like my passion for modeling also goes hand in hand with my degree in Marketing because I am using it on a daily basis – whether it be my corporate job or my modeling gigs. I’m proud of my progress over the years and how far I have come. Looking back, I have become so much more happy and confident because I am doing what I love.
