Today we’d like to introduce you to Vantasia Owens.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Vantasia. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I have always been a person of style, good character, and a person who thought way beyond their years. Life has always been fascinating to me; exploring, learning, networking, and figuring out the pieces to those “WHY’S?”. When I was about 9 or 10 years old, my mother moved her and I to Atlanta from Mississippi… I was livid because Mississippi was all that I knew and I was a young girl leaving a comfort zone and I couldn’t really understand “WHY?”. Today, I get it. You have to get uncomfortable to grow and to broaden your horizons. Moving to a different city exposed me to so much and it forced me to unleash those qualities in me. I was able to explore more, learn more, and come in contact with a host of different people.
And with all of the people that I met I always stayed true to myself; as a little girl and as a now 23-year-old adult. Life is all about figuring out those “WHY’S?” and Bossing Up! You have to be the creator of your life! Being a genuine person with a good sense of style and just knowing how to move as a woman led many people to look up to me and be inspired by the things that I did and or wore. One day I had an epiphany, I believe it was right after I turned 21.. I knew that I had to create some type of platform that was bigger than me so I created a social movement by the name of “Boss Up RSVP” in August 2016. The acronym for (B)oss (U)p is “B U”, I strive to encourage all people to always be themselves and be the creator of their lives! R.S.V.P represents R.ecognizing S.ocially V.aluable P.erspectives as this is one of the many ways to grow and expand our thinking!
Starting out I hosted a lot of empowerment/networking events and did community outreach. That was my main focus. Now I have published a journal under the brand and I am focusing more on branding myself as VANTASIA CHANTEL, a motivational writer, a life and style influencer, philanthropist, and curator of Boss Up RSVP MOVEMENT. It amazes me how everything in life comes full circle. I use to be a little girl tweeting and facebooking motivational things and posting my little cute trips and outfits; now I get to do those exact things but better (with more purpose) and with a salary.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Mmmh, it hasn’t been bad to be honest. My biggest takeaway so far though I would probably say is support/exposure. A lot of people love what you’re doing but they are usually sitting in the bleachers watching silently. I’ve seen it 1st hand! Or if you don’t have a certain following on social media or a certain type of clout others may not take you serious.
Sometimes all you really need is someone to believe in you or better yet to just keeping working and believing in yourself and at some point you will reach the top! I decided a long time ago that I wouldn’t focus on those who do not support and encourage me and instead focus more on those that do. I always promote myself and stay true to what I’ve created because someone will feel it. Even if it’s just 50 people, that’s 50 lives that I’ve touched. Although I know there’s a much bigger platform out there for me.
Another thing I would say is finding a solid team who’ll treat what you represent as their own. I want the best of the best for Vantasia Chantel/Boss Up RSVP and I know sometimes a team is needed to make the dream work. I have not yet created a full solid team to help with my overflow of ideas but one day it will come. I’ve interviewed several individuals but I’m big on vibes and energy and I’m a very detail oriented person so you just know when some things aren’t for you. However, the couple of people who have assisted me know that I love and appreciate them for life. Boss Up has come so far and I am still figuring some aspects of this branding thing out! It’s been three years and I am grateful for it all because there has been an overload of good things to happen and I’m excited for the overflow to come!
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Boss Up RSVP story. Tell us more about the business.
Boss Up RSVP is a social movement encouraging all people to always be themselves and to be the creator of their lives! As the curator of the brand, I am known for my positivity and sense of style. I am proud and always honored to represent something so dear to me because it is authentic and it is ran by an authentic person. Within the brand, I have a closet collection “V Chantel Collection” which is currently under maintenance and my journal “Boss Thoughts”, aside from those two entities I also offer a venting service titled “Venting With V” that is free of charge for a limited time. I have extended myself to offer advice and encouragement to any person who may need it. To get the service you would just need to fill out the contact form located on the website and I will reach out to you. Everything is confidential and I take people’s thoughts, feelings, and personal dealings very seriously.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Luck hasn’t played any role. It’s all been God’s favor/blessings or learning lessons from things that didn’t work.
