Today we’d like to introduce you to Vaughn Hill.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started baking cookies for my family from a passed down recipe of my grandmothers. Perfecting this recipe I started to add things to it to make it unique and different from any other cookie. From year to year, it went from Friday night sweet tooth baking, to bringing cookies to the family reunion, wedding, or to potluck dinners. Growing a rapport with people, many kept saying the same thing about how good they were. My number one response was always, “What the heck did you put in this cookie?”. I knew I had something and had to figure out a way to grow it more.
So I started putting a price tag on the cookies around the holidays. Taking the agony of baking for Thanksgiving and Christmas off the hands of people. I even started delivering them door-to-door which was a nice touch. I would spend hours in the kitchen for orders but still haven’t figured out a way to do this every day and broaden my scope.
So through trial and error, I starting experimenting with the cookies, testing them through packages and seeing how long their shelf life would be in a package. Could it make it from the east coast to the west coast and still taste like they just came out of the oven? And the answer was yes!
Mastering the shipping technique I now ship all over the US with customers receiving their order two days after they placed it.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t been a smooth road. As I mentioned before there were many trial and errors, lots of money spent, burnt cookies, and broken cookies,

VaughnChris Cookies is a mail order cookie business, delivering fresh-baked homemade cookies straight to your door. I, Vaughn Hill, am the owner of the company. Some of my proudest moments were getting an approval from my family and close friends and seeing them place order after order. You know the family can be the most critical about something because if they don’t like it they will tell you, or you will silently understand their lack of support. My family and friends turned out to be my number one fans and that to me is a great accomplishment.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Besides getting my family and friends to support and believe in my business, I would also say getting accepted on Amazon to sell my products. Amazon, as you know, is dominating the online shopping industry and most of my sales today come from Amazon more than my actual website.
