Today we’d like to introduce you to Venilla Barnes.
Venilla, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Hi, my name’s Venilla Barnes, DPT, PT, CMTPT, and I’ve been a licensed Physical Therapist for over ten years. I received my BS degree from Virginia Commonwealth University, studying Therapeutic Recreation. Following undergraduate, I attended Hampton University where I received my Doctorate in Physical Therapy. I worked as a Physical Therapist treating patients in several different settings before I decided that I wanted to become an entrepreneur and treat patients in a more personalized setting. My husband and I started Provision Physical Therapy in 2017. What a blessing it is to be your own boss and still do what you are passionate about.
Has it been a smooth road?
Nothing in life worth having is easy or smooth. Faith without work does not exist. I knew stepping out on faith and leaving corporate (stability) was going to be challenging. However, it was in February 2017 when I got confirmation that starting Provision Physical Therapy was part of God’s Plan for me. After treating a patient for one session, she later returned to my place of work (a week later), very eager to speak with me. Having no idea what she wanted, I sat with her to hear what she had to say. She told me that she did not know what I had been praying for, but that God told her to tell me “yes.” I started crying and it was then that I knew my venture would manifest regardless of obstacles.
I still face daily challenges in trying to juggle being a wife, mother, and businesswoman. Finding time to manage all those roles can be overwhelming. My strength comes from daily prayer and support from my family. Even when I may not see how I’ll get through, I am reminded of how I have overcame setbacks of rejection to get where I am today.
Please tell us about Provision Physical Therapy.
Provision Physical Therapy is an outpatient clinic that provides skilled physical therapy to patients. Specializing in orthopedics, work conditioning, motor vehicle injuries, women’s health, dry needling, and sports injuries. Provision Physical Therapy is a company that provides one on one physical therapy care to each patient. Each patient is treated individually and given goals they can work to achieve. The relationships that I build with each patient is one of the things I love most about being a physical therapist.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I like the entrepreneurial spirit that lives in the ATL. There are endless possibilities of what you can do as a business person. There are so many striving entrepreneurs in this city that continue to inspire me. If you can see it and dream it, then it is possible!
