Today we’d like to introduce you to Vesna Galovic.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started making jewelry in 2012. I was recovering after a few years of health related issues and a stem cell transplant that saved my life. During this time, I was forced to take a break from the corporate world. In order to keep myself busy, I dove into the arts. I started with simple beaded necklaces and got completely hooked. I quickly transitioned to working with metals and subsequently, never went back to the corporate world. What once seemed impossible, slowly started taking shape – and VanGal Jewelry was born.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It’s been a bumpy road, for sure, but a very rewarding one. From learning a new craft to establishing an online presence – and navigating algorithmic changes online – there have definitely been learning curves and challenges along the way. I think it’s all part of the process though. But, I also think the road is more about the journey than the destination. It’s an ongoing challenge trying to attract customers and to get people to actually see the new jewelry art that I make, but it’s in those challenges that I learn the most.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with VanGal Jewelry – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I design and craft jewelry, I specialize in one of a kind pieces and collections. Each piece is forged by hand and unique. The designs are all original “visions” that I take from my mind’s eye to actual pieces you can hold, wear and love as much as I love creating them. My goal with each piece is to make something that you’ve never seen before and hopefully if it catches your eye it will catch a piece of your heart as well. I am proud of the continuous growth – from beading to forging. I am a self-taught metalsmith, who majored in business not arts.
I stand behind the quality of each piece and I am pleased to offer jewelry that represents hours of effort and patience and knowledge accumulated over time and is sure to be appreciated for a long time. One thing that sets me apart is the fact that I also love customizing pieces. Whether it’s taking something from a current collection and making it unique for a specific buyer or helping someone bring their own vision to life – I enjoy creating commission pieces that the buyer knows was made for them.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
In the nearest future, I’ll be taking part in the 2018 Bead&Button Show International Metal Jewelry Artistry Awards competition. I hope to have a brick and mortar location that will be help bring together local artists and potential buyers by providing a studio space for artists to work as well as a showroom for them to display and sell their work. All the while, I will be continuing to expand my own repertoire by attending metalsmithing workshops and continuously learning new techniques.
