Meet Vic Allen of Supreme Acre Farms

Today we’d like to introduce you to Vic Allen.

Hi Vic, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My journey into the cannabis industry started with me battling ailments as a result of the 5+ concussions and brain injuries from being a football player for 17 years, ages 5-22, experiencing my first when I was ten years old. As I got older, the injuries started to show in various ways, including daily migraine headaches, speech impediments, memory loss and depression. After taking just about every type of pain medication and suffering the consequences of the daily use of these medications, I decided to try cannabis and almost immediately, I began to finally feel relief from all these symptoms. I became passionate about the research of cannabis and the possibility of it being used as an alternate medicine for people who were experiencing similar issues. As I began to share my story with my family, friends and former teammates, I noticed that people were hesitant to try alternative medicines like cannabis because there was a lack of transparency and inspiration of trust among the available brands and products. Many companies were bringing products to market that weren’t exactly what they were claiming it to be. I decided that I wanted to create my own products, and not only that, to ensure that I was bringing a quality product to market, I would start my own cannabis farm so that I could oversee the entire operation, from seed to shelf: cultivation, processing and product development. Doing that would allow me to maintain a consistent standard of quality and allow me to be completely transparent about each of our products.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It most definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. I knew almost nothing about actually growing cannabis, except that It wasn’t easy. In many ways, my aspirations superseded my actual ability. I didn’t have any farmland, no equipment, I wasn’t licensed. But I was determined to see it through. The vision I had for a cannabis company that would eventually become Supreme Acre Farms was too clear, so I had to exhaust all options.

There’s a farmer I know in my hometown of Town Creek, Alabama who was farming industrial hemp, Mr. Steve Posey. His wife, Mrs. Karen Posey was my high school math teacher. I reached out to Mr. Posey and asked if I could come work with him, learn the basics of agriculture and more specifically, grow hemp and learn the CBD business. Mr. Posey was gracious enough to let me join him, and at the end of that first year, I had grown over 1,000 Hemp plants that was processed into 20 kilos of high-quality CBD extract. Now, I had to figure out what to do with it. Actually crafting a marketable cannabis product was also something I had no previous experience in. As the owner of an apparel company, SKEMATIC, I knew this wasn’t Hoodies and SnapBacks, this is something people would put on and into their bodies. So I had to conduct my due diligence to make sure I was crafting safe and clean products responsibly. My grandmother, Mrs. Gladys Burlee Allen, was a diabetic and dialysis patient. She would oftentimes bruise and experience different skin conditions as a result of her ailments. She had seen an ad on TV of another CBD company that was making a cream that could help her, and when she told me about it, I decided to use the CBD extract from my first harvest to make a salve for her. Unfortunately, she passed away before I could finish it. She knew I was working on it, and she would oftentimes tell me I needed to hurry up with it, but I didn’t get it done. I was crushed after that. I wanted to give up. I felt like I didn’t have a purpose anymore. After months of deep depression and mourning the loss of my best friend, I decided to create a CBD Topicals & Supplements Brand in her honor, Burlee’s. Even in her absence, she renewed my purpose and gave me a reason to keep going.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
I consider myself a risk-taker. I quit my corporate job of ten years, at the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, to pursue something I had absolutely no experience in. The only thing I had was my faith and my belief that I could do whatever I dedicated myself to. I think that’s most important, faith & the belief that you can do it, no matter the risk. You have to believe it even when you don’t have reasons to.
