Today we’d like to introduce you to Victoria Woodard.
So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Becoming a jack of all trades was not my intent but it’s always best to know a little of everything. I started doing lashes the summer I graduated high school. Being a lash tech was something I thought would be fun and interesting that would provide an additional income for me to support my then one year old daughter. A close friend of mine who had been in the lash game for over one year taught me for free. I’m grateful to her for teaching me a trade for free at a time when people were charging $300-$1000 for classes. I gave up doing lashes for about three months because I felt as if I would never get it and I was constantly comparing my work to other techs even though they were more experienced. I wanted to be above them when it came to skills. But you have to practice to perfect your skill and I realized no one Lashes the same. So with the encouragement of my mother and boyfriend I started lashing again full throttle. I had my modeling prices as low as $20 and sometimes free for friends because I was practicing.
As soon as I started to go all out with practicing, I came across another gift. I was pregnant again. It was hard managing a two years old, college, morning sickness, and a new business. My morning sickness got in the way of me doing lashes so I stopped doing lashes again for another two months until I was finally over my 1st trimester. As soon as it stopped I was determined to make sure my business flourished. I begin to post more of my work, practice more, promote myself, order business cards, and etc. Since I first started doing lashes I have also learned to do teeth whitening. I didn’t mention I went to dental assisting school and my degree for college will be for me to be a Dental Hygienist. I have grown and flourished doing lashes since the beginning. I’m proud of my progress and proud of my struggles. I will go harder as soon as I deliver my son because moms will always make a way.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
A tough pregnancy with a lot of complications, time management, college, and getting my life together.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
Pinks Lashes specializes in doing lash extensions and teeth whitening. I’m most proud of my company for being honest and always working to enhance the beauty of my clients not just sell them a product. I inform my clients on proper care of their lashes or teeth. What sets my company apart is that I have the best lash assistant, my two years old daughter. She help take pictures and brush lashes at the end. Also, my business is a family-friendly environment.
What were you like growing up?
I was always the person who wanted to learn more and sometimes accepted too much on my plate. I worked hard for what I wanted to do. People loved me and being around me because I was always understanding, chill, funny, and just nice to be around. I can say I was very assertive and bossy because I knew what I wanted and deserved. My grades were important to me. Family has and always will be everything to me.
