Meet Vidyuth Srinivasan of Entrupy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Vidyuth Srinivasan

Hi Vidyuth, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
The need for Entrupy came to me after something I personally experienced earlier in my life. When I was in my teens and owned a motorcycle, I was sold counterfeit motorcycle batteries by an authorized dealership. I didn’t know they were fake until it broke down and I went to a repair shop for them to tell me I had spent money on fakes. The personal and mental toll that it took on me is what led me to create Entrupy.

In 2016, we launched Entrupy Luxury Authentication, so that people don’t ever find themselves in a situation like mine where they’ve been scammed out of money for something that they thought was an investment. Entrupy’s AI-powered technology is able to recognize the subtle differences in counterfeit products that are imperceptible to the untrained eye. Seeing a high demand in the handbag and sneaker markets, Entrupy launched its technology for use by luxury marketplaces, retailers, consignment shop owners, pawn shop proprietors, social resellers, and more. These types of businesses typically source stock from individual consigners rather than verified sellers, placing them at higher risk of counterfeit scams. To ensure the authenticity of an item, those businesses would normally have to employ the help of a verification expert, which can be expensive and time-consuming. Through Entrupy, they can verify an item within minutes, thus providing a high level of trust with their customers.

Today, Entrupy changes the way customers shop for pre-loved luxury items. By providing a certificate of authenticity for every verified bag or sneaker on the device, customers are not only able to feel confident in what they are purchasing, but they are also able to put their trust in the seller they are buying from. Entrupy works with thousands of businesses including major platforms like TikTok Shop as well as retailers, pawn shops, and marketplaces worldwide, to authenticate luxury handbags and sneakers from brands including Louis Vuitton, Prada, Dior, Balenciaga, Gucci, YSL, Burberry, and so many more. By doing so, the technology ensures, with a 99.1% accuracy rate, that its partners are guaranteeing the authenticity of their products backed by AI.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Building Entrupy has not exactly been a smooth road, but that’s exactly what makes our work so meaningful. Counterfeiting is an industry that constantly evolves, and staying ahead requires relentless innovation, adaptability, and problem-solving.
One of the biggest challenges we faced early on was proving that AI-powered authentication could outperform traditional methods. Many businesses relied on human experts to verify authenticity, and shifting that mindset toward trusting technology took time. We had to demonstrate not only the accuracy of our solution but also its ability to scale and provide real-time verification–something manual authentication simply can’t match.

Another hurdle has been the ongoing race to keep up with counterfeiters. As we refine our technology, counterfeiters adapt, forcing us to stay one step ahead. This means continuously sourcing new fake and authentic products, gathering data, and improving our algorithms. Additionally, breaking into the luxury industry came with its own set of challenges. Many brands were hesitant to acknowledge counterfeiting as a widespread problem, and others were skeptical about third-party authentication solutions. Over time, we’ve helped shift the conversation, making authentication a standard part of the buying and selling process.

Despite these challenges, we continue to innovate. Our mission goes beyond just detecting counterfeits as we aim to build trust in commerce, protect businesses and consumers, and educate the industry about the broader impact of counterfeiting. The road hasn’t been easy, but it’s been incredibly rewarding, and we’re just getting started.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Entrupy is the global leader in AI-powered authentication, helping businesses instantly verify luxury goods and prevent counterfeit scams with unparalleled accuracy. Our proprietary technology empowers thousands of businesses—including luxury resellers, sneaker resellers, pawnshops, online marketplaces, and retailers across 90+ countries—to authenticate items in minutes, reducing fraud and building trust with customers.

What sets us apart is our ability to stay ahead in the ever-evolving counterfeit landscape. Counterfeiters are getting smarter, but our technology evolves even faster. We use advanced AI trained on millions of data points to detect counterfeits with a level of precision that traditional authentication methods can’t match. This constant innovation makes Entrupy the most reliable solution for businesses that source stock from individual consigners rather than verified sellers, putting them at higher risk for fraud.

Beyond authentication, we see ourselves as educators and advocates in the fight against counterfeiting. Counterfeiting is not a victimless crime—it harms businesses, deceives consumers, and has serious ethical and environmental consequences. Many businesses shy away from discussing this issue, but we take a different approach. Each year, we publish our State of the Fake report, leveraging proprietary data from hundreds of thousands of AI-driven evaluations to shed light on emerging trends in counterfeiting.

At Entrupy, combating counterfeiting is a constant game of innovation—spy vs. spy. As counterfeiters develop new tactics, we refine our technology to stay ahead. Every day, we analyze new fakes, source authentic products, gather data, and improve our algorithms to make authentication faster, smarter, and more foolproof. Our work is both a challenge and a responsibility, and we firmly believe that technology like ours is a net positive for society.
