Today we’d like to introduce you to Viktoria Koi.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Since I was younger, I always knew I wanted to be in the beauty industry I just didn’t know exactly where I needed to be. I guess you can say I was a jack of all trades, as soon as I graduated I went straight into fashion school. I was truly convinced that I wanted to be a fashion designer.
But I guess rushing straight out of high school you’re forced to pick a career that you truly don’t know about. Once I was in school for fashion design, I realized that was not my forte! After that I just decided to work a regular job, I did lots of retail and lots of waitressing around the city of Atlanta. I’ve always had a great work ethic and I’ve always wanted to work so it was OK for me but I always felt like there was something bigger and better for me out there. And I also give kudos to everyone that has a 9 to 5 and is working your butt off to provide for their family because it’s not easy.
After waitressing for about four years, I decided that I needed something bigger and better, something that I truly loved. I always liked makeup and I would do my friends makeup all the time so I decided to go into aesthetic school to become a Licensed Esthetician. Paul Mitchell Esani was my favorite! Everyone was very diverse and you can truly be yourself there while perfecting your craft. I thought I truly wanted to do makeup, micro blading, and Eyelash extensions but I realized how much patience and tedious time it took for those crafts that I just wasn’t into. I realize while I was in school that waxing was actually fun and I can make a lot of money in the short amount of time. I was always fast at it and would take client after client, after that I realize that I can make this into something big and a career.
I remember when I was younger and I will go get my eyebrows done by this beautiful Brazilian lady. She would tell me how she was passionate about waxing and at that time I couldn’t figure out how you can be “passionate” about waxing. But it’s the lifestyle that you’re passionate about. It’s the women you meet, how personal you can get with someone because let’s be honest… it doesn’t get any more personal as laying freely on the table to get waxed. It’s the stories you hear in the life lessons you learn, and it’s about always perfecting your craft and getting better and seeing your skills grow overtime. And it’s also about making women feel beautiful! When someone first comes in and they’re super nervous about the “torture” they are about to experience, and then walk out feeling accomplished and realizing that it’s always worse in their mind. That’s the gratification that I enjoy. To be the reason why women aren’t so afraid of waxing anymore and they’re taking the right steps for healthy skin.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I wouldn’t say it’s been a smooth road but I would say it’s been pretty steady. I’m not the type of person to rush into things and to rush my success. There’s so much life to live and I feel like I’ll miss out on a lot of beauty if I’m rushing to my destination. A lot of people are hell-bent on money, but when you do a good job and you love what you do… the money will always come. It’s about the people, my craft, and seeing life in different ways. I truly find the beauty in everything whether it’s good or bad. And I feel that’s why my whole journey has been so peaceful for me. Now there are times where I feel like what I’m doing is not enough, but I always continue to pray and God always shows me that I’m going in the right direction.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about VK Waxing – what should we know?
VK waxing is a Full body waxing brand! I specialize in speed waxing using a grade A, painless wax. It’s different because it only adheres to the hair and not the skin AND the hair, making the service way more comfortable than normal wax sections. People are always shocked when I tell them that I can do a Brazilian in 10 minutes under the right circumstances of course. Actually doesn’t have to be such a painful, long, drawn-out process. Things can be fast, thorough, and not as painful as the stereotypical views of waxing.
What I’m most proud of about my company is the people that I meet. Always love meeting new women in it and understanding their stories and experiences. And I love always being there safe haven for waxing. A lot of women go through very brutal waxing sessions and after that they’re always afraid of getting back into getting waxed but once they tried again and they find me they always likely to come back and that makes me very happy. I feel like what sets me apart from others is that I actually care, and I actually take the time out to get to know my people while also performing a spectacular service giving my people a different view of what a wax session can actually be. And of course, I use a great wax that doesn’t hurt compared to a lot of other wax places.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I feel the most important characteristic to my success would have to be patience and faith. There’s never a time I feel like I will give up because I have the patience to keep it going. And by having faith it just pushes my heart further into my craft and to have a beautiful outlook on the journey. Without those two, I would have nothing more to give my brand.
