Today we’d like to introduce you to Vince Bailey.
Vince, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I was a kid that always loved to read! All types of books… At school, in church… to the point of “anybody but Vincent come up and read. Me and my best friend would record ourselves on a tape recorder as kids. I can still recite some Sesame Street skits or Richard Pryor album jokes!
After a very short Air Force stint, while sitting in class at Indiana University Northwest in my home town of Gary, Indiana, a professor came in and stated that there was a need for United Way volunteer readers for the blind at the Career Center. I went to inquire and never went back to college! I would shortly after learn about public access tv and fell more in love with media. After 2 1/2 years of volunteering, the Program Director was fired and I was hired at age 21 to run the local tv channel. Fast forward to getting married and my wife and our sons moved to Little Rock, Arkansas. There I worked in news at the CBS affiliate in the mornings and on air at an urban radio station overnights.
Later, I worked at a CHR station, ran the Little Rock Government Channel, supervised commercial production at Comcast, rose to Morning Personality at the big urban station (Power 92fm), worked for the local WB affiliate, and served as the Media Manager at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. In 1996, I opened up ConVincing Productions, a full-service audio/video production company. My wife was in the hair care industry and I came with her to a Bronner Bros Hair Show. I saw Atlanta as the place to be. We moved here and the rest is history. I just completed 12 years as PA Announcer for the Atlanta Dream (WNBA), I announce pro and amateur boxing matches, Professional Ballroom Dance competitions, emcee corporate events, provide voice talent for local and national clients and I teach Voiceover privately and at Clayton State University.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been a great ride! I love what I do… A news director told me I was “not experienced enough” to be on-air back in the early 90’s and that fueled me to do whatever it took to fulfill my dream!
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Vince The Voice – what should we know?
I am my business… I know that is not always the desired goal, but Vince The Voice has provided services for literally hundreds of clients over the years. I shoot, write, edit, and voice videos for clients ranging from the State Bar of Georgia to Business Associations to non-profits, commercial clients and more. My voice work has allowed me to serve as live announcer for the Trumpet Awards, Black Music Honor, The Stellar Awards, and other award program. I have voiced hundreds of commercials for all types of companies and causes. With over 35 years of professional experience, I have developed a steady repeat clientele who count on me for quality work with a short turnaround at a fair price. My days at Comcast years ago along with my radio, college, and government experiences has given me the ability to quickly assess a client’s needs and streamline to a satisfactory result. I love helping those who are unsure how to tell their story or get a message out to the public!
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I truly want my client to be successful! My mission statement is simply “Make People Feel Good.” Whether that is producing a great tribute video on an honoree, acknowledging a dancer during a professional competition, encouraging my students, or helping an organization raise awareness… I only take jobs that I believe in the mission or cause… I have shot two music videos in my life. One was for the Cherokee Indian Tribe and the other for a gospel organ player. While I love music (all kinds), I prefer working in areas that are designed to help others!
