Today we’d like to introduce you to Vincent Christie.
Vincent, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Surprised by the fact that there were so few images of black women being captured with natural hairstyles, I started a blog several years to highlight these images. Over time, I realized that there were other creatives who had the same experiences. Also, as time progressed and I created more images, I realized that hair was only a part of the story. I found my wanting to create and share images of the culture and sensuality that cultivates an Afrocentric aesthetic.
Long story short, I reached out to others who shared these interests and worked with them to create an online community that celebrates an Afrosensuality. Now Pangaea’s Garden is the sanctuary for striking images that pay homage to the exotic beauty of that earthSista that was always close to home. This is a place for the art, images and culture that captures the sensuous harmony of the earthbound soul. The works featured here can be created by anyone who has an appreciation for the aesthetic.
Has it been a smooth road?
Pangea’s Garden explores the issue of sensuality and sexuality in the Black Conscious community, creating images and commentary that at times can be quite explicit. This has always been a controversial subject in the community and it continues to be a challenge for us to overcome.
The online community has always been a labor of love with all of us involved. And as it has evolved, making it a more effective business enterprise with a solid financial foundation has also presented challenges for us. But with our growing following (that is actively engaged), I feel that we are on the right path for business success.
Cultivating our ‘virtual village’ that centers around Afrosensuality in a global diaspora is our greatest and most important challenge to date. But all of our challenges are also opportunities where we get to share our celebration of liberation and empowerment, self-love and communal sensual enlightenment.
Please tell us about Pangea’s Garden.
Pangea’s Garden is the online community that celebrates the beauty and afrosensuality of natural Black women and men while giving voice to the rich culture that cultivates it. We are an open virtual community network that features images, commentary and events for those interested in those topics.
While we engage with others in our community via our social media network (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr, OnlyFans, etc.) much of our seek to share is simply too explicit for most social media so we have our website as a place where we can connect uncensored. All are invited to join our community via OnlyFans or the website for a modest subscription fee.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
The Best: Atlanta is Wakanda! It is one of the richest cities in the country when it comes to Black culture. It is the inspiration for Pangea’s Garden. It has a rich history of black enterprise… of the civil rights movement and protests.
The Worst: Traffic and bad city planning.
As long I’ve been here, Atlanta has had issues with smog and long commutes and traffic accidents. A lot of these problems could solved with a more effective and aggressive regional traffic strategy (something that could be pursued by Atlanta’s Regional Transit Authority). The traffic issues get worse every year but no one wants to tackle it for fear of the communities reacting negatively. But this one of those problems whose solution can only be appreciated after it is completed and commonplace.
