Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeffrey McQuithy.
Jeffrey, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
After working as a stylist with a top salon in Buckhead for 13 years, I had the vision and intent of creating a salon that was unparalleled to any, not only in structure and space, but also one with an environment that attracts and nurtures the most talented artists in the city. Having a staff that is constantly encouraged to thrive and grow (not only their professional careers but as importantly, their personal lives) we have grown to be one of, if not THE, most sought after salons in Atlanta. Without a doubt, we (and I always use the term “We” – as Vis a Vis is a collaborative atmosphere) have created a fantastic reputation and business due to the professionalism and hard work of my management team and the entire staff.
I am also an hour believer that you must give back in whatever way you can. I, personally have chosen to do this by volunteering with Hospice Atlanta and the Piedmont Conservancy. As well, I have Co-Chaired Jeffrey Fashion cares for 10 years (as well as providing hair and make-up services), which is one of the largest single night fundraisers in Atlanta raising funds for Breast Cancer and AIDS. I am more that proud that I have the ability to serve and give back to the community.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I am grateful to say that the past 16 years has been fairly smooth. I think that when we opened, I was too young and “bright eyed” to even think that we could fail – it didn’t even occur to me. I didn’t over think things and simply did the best that I could possible do at the time. I lived then and continue to adhere to the motto of “Just to the next right thing” and by doing so, it gives me the peace that I have done the best that I could possibly have done at the time and keeps me from getting overwhelmed with the many decisions that could be over-analyzed which inevitably leads to regret and paralysis.
That said, as with any business, there are always hurdles. As I truly consider every employee of mine a family member, it is always difficult to see someone depart. But, once I can get past the initial disappointment, it has always been best not only for the departing employee, but for the business as a whole. In keeping a broader view, the departure of a staff member opens the way for a new and talented member to take a place and it is exciting to see that occur.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Vis A Vis the Salon – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Vis a Vis the Salon opened in 2001 in a free standing building that was built from the ground up. We are a full service hair salon that specializes in all areas of hair services. This includes hair cutting, coloring, smoothers and extensions. We also have a small make-up department that does full service make-up as well as facial waxing. We are a departmentalized salon which means that each of our designers specializes in either cutting OR coloring. In regards to services, I think that we are best known for having the best colorists in the city. We have an immense amount of talent that has many combined years of experience and is constantly exploring the newest and most on-trend looks and techniques. As well, our stylists are fantastic and I truly believe we have some of the best talent in that area as well.
I am most proud of the overall image that have created. This is only achieved by the talent of the staff as well as the extreme customer service provided by all employees from the valet, the front desk, the stylists AND the support staff. I believe that we are truly unique in that we offer the small and luxurious details not only in service -but overall experience.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
We are in the midst of a complete re-branding. We are about to unveil our new website as well as the new logo and materials. I am very excited about this as I am always trying to keep three steps ahead of what is expected.
As well, we are beginning a complete renovation that will involve almost every surface. I try to do a “fluff up” every two to three years, but this will be a major change that will further solidify that we are the most sophisticated, luxurious and most up to date salon in Atlanta. — I say this and want to point out that not only do we try for all of the previous goals, but we do this with the most polite, approachable and down to earth attitudes possible. It is most important to me to have egos in check and we try to make the guests fell as welcome as possible.
