Today we’d like to introduce you to Vivian Iwu.
Vivian, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I graduated for residency and wanted to get into private practice. I purchased a 2-year-old small practice in Cumming, GA.
I’ve worked in Cumming for the past 10 years but live in the Smyrna/vining area. The traffic and long commute to coming inspired me to open another practice in the Smyrna/ Vining area. It does feel good to only have a 7 minutes commute from my house to work. Starting a practice out of residency is definitely not a jock but my personality and knowledge have brought me up to where I am today. I cannot forget to mention that having a wonderful and supportive spouse makes a whole lot of a difference.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. Seeing and treating my patients have been the easiest part of my job. Managing the business and billing aspect of the job has been the most struggling aspect of my job.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Choice Podiatry Center – what should we know?
I own a small private podiatric practice. I am the managing and medical director of the practice. I specialize in the treatment of every aspect of the foot and ankle through conservative and surgical means. I am especially proud of the way we treat our patients. We make sure every patient gets the attention they deserve. We welcome the patients and make them feel comfortable in our offices. I make sure to treat them to the best of my knowledge and will refer them out if whatever their complaint is happens to be something I cannot handle. I am very personable. I listen to my patients and I make sure they leave my office with the understanding of what their problem is and what needs to be done to get them better.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Being personal and approachable is very important. Patients will not completely rely on their concerns if they are not comfortable with you. It is important to build trust between you and your patients. I feel that our success is mostly based on these characteristics.
