Today we’d like to introduce you to wenxin yan
Hi wenxin, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Hi, I’m Wenxin, Currently studying illustration and motion media design at SCAD.
The story of how I got into art is theatrical because when I was in high school, I did badly in math. To get into a good university, my father suggested that I study painting and enter some art colleges because art colleges usually do not have high requirements for mathematics, lol.
So, in high school, I started to learn painting basics such as drawing, coloring, and sketching. But gradually, I found that I had a strong interest in painting. I could paint at home for a day without feeling bored. After that, I successfully entered a good university in China to major in graphic design, where I studied poster design, bookbinding, illustration, font design, etc. After four years of university study, I was still very interested in painting, so my undergraduate graduation project combined design and illustration to create a series of works about the harmonious coexistence of man and nature. Plants are sentient beings, and we should go out of the city, re-explore our relationship with nature, and express the wisdom and vitality of plants. It arouses people’s thinking about ecology and nature and imagines the future mode of humans getting along with plants. I used four large illustrations to describe how I walked into nature step by step, observed and understood them, and displayed them when I graduated. Many passers-by stopped to look at my work. This is very meaningful to me. I also hope that more and more people can see my work and have more influence, so I decided to come to the United States to study for an MFA in Illustration, and that’s why I’m here now.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Generally speaking, it goes smoothly because this is the direction I like, but sometimes I am troubled because I can’t think of a good composition or have no inspiration when painting. so every time it happens, I usually choose to go for a walk in nature. for me, it’s an excellent way to relax and get inspired.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I currently work as an illustrator, graphic designer, motion media designer, and animator. I like combining illustration and graphics to create dynamic effects. This includes using advanced technology and cutting-edge modern tools to design business videos and stunning motion illustrations. I’m also interested in combining 3D technology with motion to create more incredible surreal, dynamic effects and interactive illustrations.

Haha. Many people who have seen my works think that the illustrations are very romantic which is very suitable for children’s illustrations because I use some very romantic and delicate colors to draw them.
But actually, I drew some cool game concept designs in private, cause I like playing the video game like PUBG hahaha.
