Meet Weston Hine of MYFEVER in Decatur

Today we’d like to introduce you to Weston Hine.

Weston, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I grew up in the sweaty Panhandle of FL in Panama City Beach. When I was 12, a friend showed me a James Bond riff on his rip-off Eddy Van Halen guitar and I was completely hooked on music…for life. I grew up in church and was fortunate to have a handful of older musician buddies there who really had a love for writing, recording, and music in general. We were a tight little community and always hungry to find new music and albums. In a small town seemingly depraved from art culture, this was an important period of time for me. The teen years into college provided multiple bands to help cut the teeth and most of all, a general love for the art of songwriting. At 19 (2010), I remember challenging myself to write a song a day for six months. Like most good artists my disciplines were questionable but I did end up writing around 70 songs and that period of time proved to be a formidable period specifically for developing the craft of songwriting. In 2014, my brother Garrett and I started the band MYFEVER after attending what felt like a supernatural concert. This was a key moment as we made the decision to pursue music as a full-time career. We moved to Atlanta in 2015 and have been touring regularly playing 50-70 shows a year opening for acts such as Rayland Baxter, Half Noise, & St. Lucia. Aside from MYFEVER, I also do some writing and performing with groups Old Sea Brigade, Passion City Church, Lucky Valley, & God Bless Relative.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I think one of the most difficult challenges facing musicians and artists today is authenticity. It’s so tempting to be going about your business and goals and then look at someone else’s “thing” and be threatened or question your “thing”. Before you know it, your compass is off and you’re chasing something that’s not you. Also, it’s so easy for the music to take a backseat to the business side. For musicians, it always needs to start with songs. That’s your craft. More practical challenges would include, keeping a band together, paying the bills, and finding opportunity in an very crowded market.

Please tell us about MYFEVER.
MYFEVER is a rock band. People say rock ‘n roll is dead and that the last arena rock bands are already here and in the limelight. I think we try to write music that questions that statements authority. Music that is big, moving, and anthemic is music that makes us happy and what we tend to aim for.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I wouldn’t change anything. I’m a big believer that people in a lot of ways are largely the summation of all the decisions they’ve made, not excluding the bad ones. Trial and error and failure are a big part of learning how to do anything. I’m very thankful and blessed to be where I am and am thankful for both the opportunities and the growth I’ve experienced, thus far.
