Meet Will Bearyman of SilverHook Studios in Powder Springs

Today we’d like to introduce you to Will Bearyman.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started SilverHook Studios originally as a recording studio to support my music as an artist and to work with other independent music artists at that time. Over time by request of the clients, we delved into video production and moved from Metro Detroit, MI to Metro Atlanta, GA in 2009.

During the growth process, we dabbled in all facets of audio and video production from studio recordings, live events, weddings, commercials and more. Once I decided to move the business to Atlanta over ten years ago, we shifted our focus to strengthening and growing the film production side.

SilverHook Studios is an award-winning film and video production company, where we focus on high-end commercial and corporate video as well as film productions. Our latest short film project “15 Minutes” just finished its film festival circuit run and we are currently looking for distribution for it and to turn it into a series.

I’ve been in film production now close to 20 years and have had work featured on a host of major networks. And as Creative Director for SilverHook Studios, I work with clients to help them achieve their production goals through imaginative storytelling. Our goal in the next five years is to get the point of creating our own engaging content that is story-driven, heartfelt, and positive entertainment.

I’m an active member of the Atlanta Black Chambers and a former member of the Recording Academy (Grammys) and the Georgia Production Partnership (GPP). I’m highly interested and concerned about what progress the metro Atlanta region is going through and how it affects the film community.

With the recent pandemic, I put together a webinar on how businesses could stay safe during COVID-19 and complete much-needed productions. It was important to me to be available to provide our services that our clients need, but also assuring their safety during this time.

Today and specifically right now, we are focused on helping the Georgia Film Production industry get a leg up (safely) during the pandemic and continuing to help clients produce content. Looking to grow our reach and collaborate with other production companies to get our content onto streaming platforms.

When I’m not doing production, I’m performing under my hip-hop moniker “Hookdiggy”, and releasing feel good, motivational music that’s meant to make you dance and smile. I’m also doing a weekly live performance show called This Is Hip-Hop Thursdays (www.thisishiphopthursdays.com) which has me going to back to my first love of music and providing viewers an opportunity to enjoy live music in the comforts of their homes since they aren’t able to go to concerts at this time.

Has it been a smooth road?
Before the pandemic, most of the struggles I experienced became learning experiences to grow from and if critical, not repeat. Once COVID-19 became a real issue, we really wanted to focus on how to be part of a solution and not a problem. So we turned to what could we do to help other businesses out during this time.

But like most production companies at our stage, one of the biggest obstacles is getting into the right room to meet the person who helps you get to the next level. Without proper guidance or surroundings, you will find yourself and your business running in circles.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the SilverHook Studios story. Tell us more about the business.
SilverHook Studios is an award-winning film and video production company, where we focus on high-end commercial and corporate video as well as film productions. We are both DBE and MBE Certified providing a host of services ranging from concept to completion; namely, scriptwriting, filming, editing, graphic animation, sound design, and finishing. We specialize in cutting edge video productions with a core focus on storytelling and creating timeless pieces that hold their value. We have shot and produced films and videos across the United States, internationally, and we leverage a network of long-standing relationships with partner companies across the U.S. to support customers wherever they are.

What we are most proud of is our ability to constantly adapt with the ever-changing industry. Not only are we always learning new things and applying them for the benefit of our clients, but we are also looking for ways to improve our workflow, be better at what we do, and learn a little bit more today than we did yesterday so we are always growing.

What sets us apart from other production companies is our function as a dream maker. Ever since SilverHook Studios was a recording studio, my thought process as both a creative and an artist was to get any final product as close as possible to what the client had in their mind for what the final product would look and sound like. We pay attention to every little detail and request and stand by making sure our clients are getting exactly what they ask for.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
COVID-19 has definitely changed the industry moving forward. I think we will see more use of virtual meetings throughout the production process and be more aware of how we can have less people on set. The fact that the video conferencing industry took a huge marketshare in 2020 means there will be more of it in the future. We’ve already held a virtual film festival, and are also doing a virtual live concert series. Giving people an option to avoid large crowds is going to be the biggest shift we see.

Cleanliness and safety was already a big part of the industry, but I think now that people have had to be consciously aware of their safety and surroundings, they will want the option to still attend an event but may want a stay-at-home experience.

I also believe because of all the money the movie theaters have lost this year, that at-home releases are going to become a thing to be able to get the content to the viewers who are not comfortable with going back to a crowded theater. Plus the movie studios need to be able to compete with the streaming services that are offering their own exclusive home movie experiences.
