Meet William Shelton of Esteam Carpet Clean and Janitorial Service

Today we’d like to introduce you to William Shelton.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
When I was growing up, my father worked for a pest control company and used to clean carpet part time. I used to urge him start a company and do that full time. When I left law enforcement back in 2010, I decided I would take my own advice and start a cleaning business. In April 2010, my wife was 7 months pregnant with our third child and working as a para professional at a local elementary school, which made the urge to apply for a job strong. Starting was difficult but I knew it will pay off long term instead of punching the clock again. After 7 years in the cleaning industry, I never looked back. Eventually I helped my father start his own pest control business and began helping other African Americans start businesses. This lead up to me starting my organization, Atlanta Black Business Network, Inc., whose main goal is to educate aspiring black business owners about business growth and development.

Has it been a smooth road?
The road was never smooth. I can’t begin to name the obstacles and challenges that have and still presents themselves to me. I have developed a mind frame to welcome obstacles and challenges, they make you stronger! However, if I was to name the biggest obstacle I would say it begins with me. Sometimes we get in our own way and the situations in the past we once thought of as challenges were really just us getting in our own way. In other words, we had deficiencies that we had to overcome.

Esteam Carpet Clean and Janitorial Service specializes in carpet cleaning and floor care, we also provide commercial janitorial services as well. As a company, we pride ourselves on customer service and treating our customers with respect! I feel when you enter someone’s home or business customer service is top priority, it can be the difference between a one-time customer and life-long customer,

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
The best thing about Atlanta is its diversity, many people come here from all walks of life so it’s much to learn and gain from a place like that…. the cherry on top is it has a larger city feel but maintains southern charm.

Dislikes and I think we all can agree on this is (drum roll please) the TRAFFIC!
