Today we’d like to introduce you to Charlie Winters.
Charlie, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
When I was younger, my mom was started school at a cosmetology school. She was a single parent so some days, I was allowed to go to school with her and kind of just take in my surroundings. Shortly after school, she started her career as a stylist. From there I picked up on a lot of her work and different skills. Since she was a stylist, I never went to a salon to get my hair done professionally. It was either her or me. I was into YouTube when I was younger and I used to post a mini tutorial on how I styled my hair. It was an advantage because I was starting to be the girl around school whose hair was always done or I had a different style every week. Since then, I took that and ran with it. Freshman year of Highschool, I started off offering box braiding services. From there I went from box braids to SewIns. By the time I graduated, I was styling my cheermates and classmates.
I wasn’t really into experiencing the whole “college experience” so I used my spare time to learn how to start applying wigs on myself. I wanted to go about it the right way so my mom bought me my first wig. I still remember what kind of hair it was, she bought me an 18” frontal with 22”24”26-inch bundles! I didn’t know how to do a frontal Sewin on myself yet so I made it into a wig. I applied it so well I thought that I had magic hands. I also filmed the process and that video went viral throughout social media. That influenced me to Keep practicing so that I could do it on others. Halfway through the semester, I transferred schools and moved back home. I had so much spare time being home and away from friends that I started working on my craft. From there I started taking clients at home. I’ve never been handed anything. I’ve always had to work for everything I wanted. I looked up to young female bosses like Jayda Cheaves. Her hustle inspired me to look into the hair business. In March I crashed my car which resulted in me being home all the time and it started turning into me being in a funk all the time. I’ve always been good at talking to God and finding myself. So that led me to starting my own hair brand. I planned for weeks and slowly started launching my products. Every day is a challenge. Some days are better than others. An entire year later, I am now working in my own suite doing what I love and learning more to become the best. right now, I am working on building my name from the ground to the sky’s limit. June 15th will be my relaunch date for Winters Daze and I can’t wait to school the world and showcase my hard work and dedication!
Has it been a smooth road?
It definitely has not. March 2019, I Crashed my first Car. I had to find a quick 9-5 to job and work 24/7, literally to get back on my feet. Well back on wheels. August 2019 I was becoming so overwhelmed keeping up with everybody else’s expectations of me and being in school. I made the brave decision of taking some time off from school. I was sad at first but then started to think everybody’s story is different and I was just one of those people. September 2019, I bought my first brand NEW Car. All in my name and All by myself. I realized then and there that I can make anything I TRULY want in life, I can capable of achieving. I then started working at Hooters. That was my first job that I truly enjoyed! Later on, I got a second job at Lenox Mall while still doing hair on the side. But due to the 2020 pandemic Covid- 19, that joy was cut short. I instantly went into panic mode and started questioning how would I even pay my bills with no source of income. My job closed and I put a haul on taking clients for the sake of my health and my families. As time passed, I came up with a game plan and was blessed with an opportunity of working in a Suite located In Atlantic Station. I questioned myself at first wondering if I’d have enough clientele to keep up with Booth Rent. but of course, with the help of God, I took the risk and now I am successfully back up and running and have over five different sources of income all revolving around HAIR!
