Today we’d like to introduce you to Rebecca Cochran and Rebecca Peet.
So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
‘The Rebeccas’ met in December of 2017, after attending the same church, Trinity Anglican, for a few years. While we didn’t know one another, we quickly bonded over our shared name and desire for a creative outlet after a few years of being stay-at-home-moms. We wanted that outlet to be substantial and worthy of people’s time, so we decided to focus on the central thread in both our lives-our faith.
We both love to talk, so podcasting was the perfect medium for us. The fact that we knew nothing about how to make a podcast was pretty intimidating, so we went step by step and gave ourselves generous deadlines at first. The scariest part was telling other people what we were doing-it is so vulnerable to put yourself out there into the abyss of the internet, especially when you discuss personal topics and challenging things. We’re happy to say the response has been overwhelmingly kind, positive, and supportive.
As we say in the intro to Woven each week, “we strive to be Christians living in the world with intention; our prayer is that, to paraphrase Mary Zimmer, ‘the Christ who knew Mary and Martha would show us the way of balance.'”
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Working together has been smooth. We are very different personality types- Rebecca Peet is an Enneagram 3, with a Type A personality, and Rebecca Cochran is an Enneagram 4 with a B Personality. Our differences mean we each have different gifts and strengths, and we usually divide tasks according to those strengths, rather than trying to collaborate on every individual task.
Speaking of focusing on strengths, we quickly realized neither of us knew how to edit a podcast, nor did we have the time to devote to doing it, so we’ve outsourced that. The help of our editor Joel allows us to share the workload and use our time the most efficiently.
The biggest struggle, as is for most Atlantans, is the traffic. We live on opposite sides of the perimeter so getting together to record can be a challenge! Sometimes we opt for Skype, but usually we’ll deal with the traffic if it means recording in person-it’s just more fun that way!
The Woven podcast – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Woven is a five-star rated podcast that seeks to encourage women to live balanced, faith-filled lives right where they are-not someday in the future, or when a certain goal is met, but right now.
Some topics we’ve covered include: body image, stewardship, racial reconciliation, social media, doubt, miscarriage, adoption, aging, the Enneagram, infidelity, mutual submission, how to take care of yourself so you can be a good parent, tattoos, yoga, Lectio Divina, the Prayer of Examen, anxiety and depression, legalism, hair, singleness in the church, cancer, childhood trauma, young widowhood, boundaries, contentment, balance, grace, and the integration of mind, body and spirit.
This is a wide range of topics, but the common thread is that they all affect us personally or have affected our listeners, who are mostly Christian women aged mid-20’s to 50’s. We specialize in being very honest and open about our own experiences and inviting guests who do the same-but we also keep it fun, and interject humor every chance we can.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
We define success as listener retention. We gain new listeners weekly, but we are so proud that the ones we have tend to stick around. We also love the feedback we get that our episodes helped someone wrestle through a particular issue, or let them know they aren’t alone in a struggle. It makes it all worth it!
