Meet Xoe Reid

Today we’d like to introduce you to Xoe Reid.

Xoe, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My name is Xoe Aminah Reid. I was born in Arlington, Texas and raised in Decatur, Georgia. Since the age of two, I’ve had an interest in dance and modeling. While in Texas, my mother put me in pageants at an early age and that is essentially what started my interest in modeling. Both of my parents were amazing dancers when they were younger. Seeing them happily dancing around definitely influenced my love for dance and music. From the age of five and up, I’ve been in numerous plays, talent shows and dance showcases.

In high school, I was a dancing Diva at the amazing SWD High School and was captain of my dance team my senior year. Although my background is heavily in majoretting, I also specialize in modern, traditional belly dance, ballet, contemporary and of course Hip Hop. I am known mostly for my crisp moves in popping and B-girl styles of hip hop choreography. Over the years, I have helped choreograph field shows for majorette teams, I worked as a private instructor under my name Xoe Reid, and I taught dance at M.A.D to children 12 and under! As far as my modeling, I was apart of both modeling troupes at my high school and at my college institutions. I joined PhreshLyfe, a modeling group/agency, my freshman year of college at the Unsinkable Albany State University. There, I’ve gained experience in not only learning how to be a model, but how to teach and conduct choreography for a fashion show! Since then, I have been mainly working on my name brand as a dancer and a model. I have been featured in a few music videos, gender reveals and fashion shows. My overall goal is to become a choreographer for various artist in the music industry!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road to success is never easy. As a natural black woman, I am often asked to conform to European Standards of beauty by asked to straighten my hair, wear weaves, or lose weight to be a socially acceptable model/choreographer. It can be hard to stay true to yourself as an artist when people are consistently trying to change you. The key to staying sane in these instances is to remember who you are and your worth as an artist. There is no one else like you!

We’d love to hear more about your work.
I am a choreographer and a model. I am more so known for my dancing and training. Some of my most proud moments as a choreographer was becoming a dance instructor for the youth under the corporation M.A.D. Another accomplishment I am proud of was making choreography for certain scenes in Fashion Shows for PhreshLyfe and helping make choreographies for high school band field shows. Being in music videos are a huge chunk of accomplishments as well.
