Today we’d like to introduce you to Yasmin Rahimi.
Yasmin, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Back in 2013, the idea of Couture for Charity came to me when I thought of my family’s dear friend who had been battling breast cancer for nearly 9 years. Her fight against this illness pushed my desire to help raise awareness with community outreach and funds for furthering research.
At the time I was 16 and a junior in high school so my plate was quite full. I have always had a love for design and a passion for giving back to those in need. Combining these two passions only seemed natural to me.
Couture for Charity thrives on the support and encouragement from friends and family from all over. To this day it amazes me how far Couture for Charity has come. Our first event had 120 people in attendance and at our second Couture for Charity show we had over 220 people in attendance.
Over 40 runway looks and 2 sold out fashion shows later Couture for Charity has raised over $70,000 for breast cancer initiatives.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road to success is never easy and the best things in life always require work.
I recall going from business to business attempting to sell tickets and receive item donations for the first Couture for Charity event and hearing “Sorry, we aren’t interested” over and over again.
Please tell us about Couture for Charity.
Couture for Charity is a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization that combines a designer’s and community’s mutual love for fashion and desire to help fight breast cancer.
I am the founder & designer of Couture for Charity so I oversee all of the organization.
I coordinate design production, fabric selection, set design, model recruitment, sponsorships & silent auction.
I also manage the marketing and advertising campaigns on all of our media platforms while cultivating relationships with business owners and fashion influencers.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite memory has to be living in Boston and experiencing New England in the Fall.
The colors of the leaves are something that inspired a lot of my designs when I was in elementary school.
