Meet Kenyarda Hall of Yaya Jiu Jitsu in Metro Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kenyarda Hall.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My modeling career started when I was noticed by my college dance coach. As a child, I was always teased about my skin tone and height, which made me step out on faith. My coach told me about the school fashion show then suggested that I attend the casting call. I went to the casting, surprisingly I gained a spot to walk for two designers the very first show I had done. While that sparks my interest, I continued to complete my degree finishing with my Associates in Science from Virginia College. I started to research more information on castings and building a model resume. Stopping with my first show was not an option for me. So I began to work in the medical field and also model.

Castings for models were limited in Birmingham, AL where I was raised, although it was limited I still went to any casting I was told about, just to get the experience in the industry of modeling. I realized I needed a change, granted with a career opportunity in Atlanta with Primary Care. I was so excited I took the job without thinking about finances, where I was going to stay, or what would happen in the future. That leap of faith landed me in Atlanta with $75 for two weeks until I received my first real check to sponsor myself. Over a period of time, I met models at networking events, fashion shows, etc. They were so nice they sent me castings, promotional work, and powershoot events to help build my portfolio. Once I took their advice, I’ve had nothing but inspiring breakthroughs. In my spare time, I mentor to woman, volunteer with the youth ministry at my church, and focus on upcoming bookings!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
No, the road has been bumpy, shacky, and sometimes scary, Through it all, I took my life lessons as an experience to learn. Everything I’ve learned has prepared me to be ready to speak in front of an audience and leave first time great impressions to continue getting booked.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Yaya Jiu Jitsu – what should we know?
My business delivers professionalism as a model. Yaya Jiu jitsu is my model name which means a strong woman. I choose to give a strong, diverse image on the runway and behind the camera. I’m known for my strong graceful walk and delivering what’s asked of me!

An honorable moment for me is being booked for Fashionaires of Atlanta/Models of Atlanta reality shows of 2019 as a model. I’m overly excited that patience, faith, and hard work offered me the position to work with KL stylist, Van Miller International, Corpworld Media, Summer Jackson, and Sina Bina. This makes me happy to be able to work that close to some great people!

What sets me apart is standing out with a huge amount of diversity within myself and others. Being a positive energy through all aspects of a job, as well as sharing my philanthropist spirit with everyone I encounter. The ability to encourage others is rewarding gift.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
For the most part, my mother and grandmother is my biggest cheerleaders they have pushed me in whatever it was I wanted to do and never told me it wasn’t for me. I moved my grandmother here to Atlanta with me recently, she has been a solid rock of motivation everyday I leave the house I tell her I got you!! Aleta and Shay the Runway Diva for mentoring me through getting my resume and portfolio where it should be.
