Today we’d like to introduce you to Yelena and Elan Hertzberg.
Yelena and Elan, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started out as a fashion designer and worked for years with big design houses in LA. I met my husband, Elan, in 1998 while I was in college and he was working in the film industry. He helped me get into wardrobe styling by finding me an agent. I styled for TV commercials, music videos and magazines. My husband moved up the production ladder, from PA to Producer for TV commercials and music videos.
We got married in 2002 and started a family. In 2007, we moved from LA to Charlotte because my husband specialized in car commercials and wanted to work for NASCAR, producing their commercials and branded content. He kept getting freelance jobs in Atlanta and while there, he heard Atlanta was becoming the ‘New Hollywood.’ So we sold our house and moved to Atlanta in 2011 to be a part of all the excitement!
We always wanted to go out on our own and start a production company. Our dream became a reality in 2015 when we launched FilmTribe, a creative film production and post/VFX boutique, located on Atlanta’s famous Zonolite Road. This side street, just off Briarcliff, at the entrance to the Morningside/Virginia-Highland neighborhood, is filled with artsy and health-conscious establishments, marketing companies — even a nature preserve with walking trails.
Has it been a smooth road?
Overall, our road thus far has been amazing in so many ways. We feel fortunate and blessed to be where we are today. Of course, there have been many struggles along the way, but I’d have to say that the main struggle we’ve had, as I’m sure every startup can relate to, is generating revenue. When you are the new kid on the block, it’s hard to break in. We have a full sales team out of NY working tirelessly to get us jobs. We have an incredibly talented roster of directors, creatives, producers, editors, VFX artists, and DP’s that contribute to our growing success. It takes a strong, passionate, dedicated team for a company to succeed. It takes a village or shall I say, a Tribe.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with FilmTribe – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
We specialize in cutting-edge visual content as well as full post services for feature films, TV commercials, music videos and corporate projects. FilmTribe is unique in several ways. First and foremost, we have over thirty years of LA live-action production experience. One of the major things that separate us from other production companies in Atlanta, is that we are not home-grown. The ‘LA quality’ we offer our clients is an important distinction.
FilmTribe is a rare hybrid in that we are a production, visual effects (VFX) as well as a full post-production shop. This means that our directorship is infused at every step of the way so as to ensure the highest level of quality in the finished product.
We currently have 14 key directors on our roster that are from around the globe and are diverse, highly-skilled and at the top of their field in their respective niches spanning the spectrum from comedy and lifestyle to car chases and high-end visual FX. This gives us the capability to take on any type of project with the confidence that we can deliver a flawless deliverable.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
The cost of living, quality of life, and Georgia Film Tax Credits were a huge draw for us to uproot our family and move to Atlanta to open a production company. We also love the culture, the warm and friendly people, and the weather.
