Today we’d like to introduce you to Yessica Rojas.
Hi Yessica, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Absolutely! I’ve always loved art—it runs deep in my roots. I’m a proud Caribbean Colombian, and growing up there meant being surrounded by vivid colors, music, and a natural flow of creativity everywhere I looked. Whether it was street murals, festivals, or the vibrant fabrics, art was always present. I spent hours with coloring books as a child, completely absorbed in mixing colors and bringing pages to life. It was my happy place.
Art has always been a part of me, especially through my mom’s influence. She’s incredibly creative—she made our birthday cards and cakes, painted our dresses, sewed them by hand, and even turned our house walls into beautiful murals. Naturally, that inspired me. In school, I was always the one helping with decorations, drawing posters, and designing anything that needed a creative touch. I even studied architecture for three years.
When I moved to the U.S. 27 years ago, I channeled that creativity into helping at my daughters’ schools—crafts, events, you name it. But once they grew older, I felt a creative void… until I discovered the world of decorated cookies. I was instantly drawn to it. It was beautiful, detailed, and artistic—everything I love. What started as a personal challenge quickly became a passion and eventually grew into a business.
Now, I get to blend all those inspirations—my culture, my family, my love for color and design—into edible art that brings joy to others. It’s been an unexpected but incredibly rewarding journey.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Not at all—but I think that’s what makes the journey meaningful! Like any creative business, there’s been a learning curve. When I first started, I had no idea how much went into not just making beautiful cookies, but running a business—from pricing and time management to marketing and customer service.
One of the biggest challenges was confidence—believing that my work was worth charging for, and that people would actually value what I was creating. I also had to learn how to say no, set boundaries, and not burn myself out trying to do it all.
And truthfully, I’m still learning. That’s the beauty of art—there’s always something new to discover. It teaches you to be consistent, to show up even when things aren’t perfect, and most of all, to be patient. Cookie decorating especially requires a lot of patience! There are so many steps depending on the theme or design you’re working on. It’s a process, and you don’t really get to see the full masterpiece until the very end.
There have been weeks where I’ve barely slept, and plenty of times I’ve had to throw away batches of ingredients because things didn’t come out the way I envisioned. It can be frustrating and exhausting—but it’s also part of the process. Every mistake has helped me improve, and every challenge has made me more resilient.
At the end of the day, it’s incredibly rewarding to see someone smile when they receive something I created. That’s what keeps me going and reminds me why I started.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m the owner and cookie artist behind Yessica Sweet Creations, a baked-to-order custom cookie business based in Sugar Hill, GA—and proudly serving surrounding areas like Cumming, Suwanee, Buford, Flowery Branch, Dacula, Alpharetta, Johns Creek, and mainly the North Atlanta area.
I specialize in decorated sugar cookies for all kinds of special occasions—birthdays, baby showers, weddings, corporate events, and more. Each set is custom-designed with care, so no two are ever the same. I love the creative challenge of turning a theme or vision into edible art that’s both beautiful and meaningful.
I’m often recognized for my attention to detail, clean lines, and thoughtful designs—people love that my cookies are both eye-catching and delicious! What sets me apart is the personal connection I build with my clients and the heart I pour into every order. I treat each cookie as a mini masterpiece because I know it’s part of someone’s special moment.
I’m especially proud of how this business has grown from a passion project into something that allows me to connect with my community in such a sweet and creative way. I also teach beginner cookie decorating classes, which has been an amazing way to share what I’ve learned and help others tap into their creativity.
At the heart of it all, I simply love creating—and I feel incredibly grateful to do what I love while being part of people’s most cherished celebrations.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
There’s no way I could have done this alone! First and foremost, my family has been my biggest support system. My husband and daughters have been incredibly patient, encouraging, and understanding through the late nights, cookie chaos, and last-minute pickups. They’ve believed in me every step of the way, even when I was just figuring it all out.
I also have to give credit to my amazing clients—many of whom have become repeat customers and even friends. Their trust, kind words, and referrals have helped my business grow more than any marketing ever could. Every message, review, and “these were almost too pretty to eat!” comment has meant the world to me.
And I’m so grateful for the local community of creatives and small business owners who have shared their knowledge, supported my work, and lifted me up along the way. Groups like Because Mom Network and Mommy Mingle have been such a gift—offering connection, collaboration, and the reminder that we’re all growing and learning together.
From mentors who’ve shared advice, to fellow cookie decorators who’ve inspired me, to friends who’ve cheered me on from the beginning—each person has left a mark on my journey. I’m beyond thankful for the village behind Yessica Sweet Creations!
