Meet Yucca Harris

Today we’d like to introduce you to Yucca Harris.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Yucca. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
A Salon Consultant and Fashion Enthusiast. I was born and raised in the eclectic artistic kaleidoscope, Atlanta Georgia. At the age of 16, I was introduced to the hair industry working as a shampoo assistant at a local salon in Decatur, Georgia. For a little over two years, I strengthened my skills learning new techniques, knowledge of products, methods of hair care, and self-grooming regimens. Although my skills started to thrive, I took a hiatus from the hair industry and challenged the diversity of my skills and entered the corporate world. Over the next 15 years I served as a Life Claim Examiner. After mass lay-off from corporate America.

In 2010, I decided to chase and peruse my passion. I returned to the hair industry, the timing was perfect. Reentering the hair industry was jump-started as a General Manager and quickly led to a Salon Consultant. The new role gave me the opportunity to travel the world, attend boot camps, classes and major trade shows. My interest, talent and enthusiasm for hair and fashion led to the opportunity to become a fashion and hair model. My unique style and fierce flair caught the eye of publications where I became a feature model in Hotlanta Hair Magazine, Modern Salon, Passion International and Sophisticate’s Hair Magazine, all of which highlighted the trending styles in hair and fashion. Throughout my life, I’ve continued to challenge myself to think outside the box and to try new things what I didn’t know. I would transform an unexpected and unbearable tragic story with nationwide coverage into a read. I’m now a Model turned Author.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
There were definitely struggles along the way. I was faced with the sudden death of my best friend, whose life was taken in the hands of her twin daughters that she had recently regained custody. This tragic took place in Jan. 2010 in Conyers, GA. A relationship tight knitted and sister-like from childhood, this tragedy struck me hard, but I knew I must remain strong for my dear friend. After time to heal, I wanted to bring light to my best friend’ and a view of all the often hidden issues that happen behind closed doors. The tragic death of my best friend did not result in poor parenting; it was the result of invisible signs and ignored voices. Pulling through, wanting to give and be a voice, I self published The Untold Story Of Nikki Whitehead; Torn 2 Pieces.

Please tell us about your business.
I am the Author of “The Untold Story Of Nikki Whitehead” Torn 2 Pieces. The book reflects my love and life journey with my best friend (Nikki Whitehead). My story and writing have caught the attention of media and press where I’ve been invited to share my story on Dateline with Keith. Morrison, Dr.Phil, Nancy Grace and Jane Velez-Mitchell and Sword and Scale podcast. Domestic Violence is not only abused between a man and a woman, but it is violent and controlling behavior against another human being. I’m determined to be a voice and advocate. I will continue to use my platform to inspire and support families that may endure the similar struggles faced by my best friend. I’m most proud to say I self-published and the book has a five-star rating on Amazon. What sets me apart from others, the higher the voices, the louder the sound. I will not ignore, nor will I sweep my friend’s story under the rug. Individually we can fight, but together we can make a change. Break the silence; domestic Violence.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Yes, I would like to thank everyone that has supported me over the years. I want to thank each and everyone who came out to my book signing in Oct.2019. It was a real success. I can’t forget to thank the media outlet, tv shows and programs that have shined a light on my best friends’ story. I’m forever grateful!
