Today we’d like to introduce you to Yudelka Salcedo.
Hi Yudelka, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I had a passion for designing since I was a little kid. I took various art classes in school. I also did ballet, and just always loved the arts. When I was 24, I started a wholesale clothing and accessories online store called “YuFluff Puppy Collection. That’s when I realized my niche and talents.
Fast-forward to my 30’s is when I had my two beautiful kids. I thought to myself, wouldn’t it be awesome if I could create their very own type of fashion? I got all the materials I needed during the pandemic and started TheYubrand which is meant for kids and moms of a unique and eclectic sense of fashion. Today I am what you call a momprenuer, and it is so exciting being able to do what I love to do every day.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has been a pretty smooth road so far. Some struggles I’ve experienced come mainly from finding time to juggle a full time career as a mom and corporate worker with entrepreneurship. That includes the financial aspect of it, being a full-time working mother of two all while building a brand and legacy.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a full-time mother working for a digital marketing company. I am building my brand, The Yubrand which is a clothing brand for kids and hip moms. It is an online platform, but I hope that one day I can own one or several storefronts. I am also an author of a children’s book titled “Kenton & Kenzie’s magic Baobab Tree Adventure.”
I am pretty new in this business, however, I am most known for my dedication and work ethic. I put a lot of sweat and tears into my craft to make for a perfect body of work.
I am most proud of the fact that I have so many people who support and back me. It is so rewarding to know that as a mother, I can be a boss chick effortlessly.
What sets me apart from others is my intense dedication and commitment to being an amazing mother who isn’t afraid of striving for ultimate success. I am hardworking and help my community as much as possible.
How do you think about luck?
I would say that I have had some amazing blessings come into my business. I was able to get the funding I need to buy inventory and for marketing. I have also been blessed with close friends who believe in me enough to share my work with others. I would say that luck has played a huge role in where I am today as a black business owner. It’s not easy out here for us, but I was still able to pave a way to my success.
