Meet Yung Xaio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Yung Xaio.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Yung. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I literally started from being bored. One night I was at home up in the middle of the night before school, searching on YouTube for type beats and I found one by Bolurin Ojofeitimi (who’s one of my favorite producers now) that just made me want to bob my head. I started to write stuff down in my notes and finished the song in about ten minutes. The next day at school, I skipped all my classes, trying to figure out where I could record the song until one of my friends in the band told me that the music room had a studio inside. So we waited until after school, I practically had to beg my friend TRGC to record for me. I was so nervous because the band teacher was there, and I was doing a lot of cussing, so I thought he would kick us out but after I was done and came out the booth, all he could do was nod his head and say “that was nice.” Ever since then, I knew I was supposed to be making music.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I’d be lying if I say that it’s been smooth or easy. I’ve had issues finding a genuine team and people to work with, and times were people have tried to take advantage of me because I’m a teenage girl but that’s to be expected. I feel like I have a super long way to go to get to where I wanna be, but I’m grateful that I’ve been able to go as far as I have, and that there are people out here who listen to my music faithfully.

Can you give our readers some background on your music?
Obviously, I’m a rapper. But I feel like, at least in Atlanta, I’m known for being myself unapologetically at all times, whether it be my music, how I dress, or even how I hold a conversation. I’m a very wild and fun person, I feel like it really comes out in my music and I think that people can feel me through my songs. Especially if you know me personally, I think you can really see the correlation between who I am in real life and who I am artistical.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Personally, I think success is when you can take care of yourself and those around you doing what you love to do. If I was able to put my mom in her dream house, send her on vacation whenever she wants, etc. off the money, I made making my music. That’s success to me.
