Today we’d like to introduce you to Yuni Min.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Yuni. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I have always loved cooking and sharing meals with family and friends. The love of sharing meals was passed down to me by my mom and her recipes will always be my favorite ones. I wanted to pass down special recipes down to my kids and started a blog in December of 2014. It soon became a place where I not only shared food but also my faith and love of home decor. It even became a place where I shared our family’s journey into becoming a foster family. Simple DIY projects were shared which then grew into larger home projects and makeovers. I started to work with different brands that approached me and people started to ask me for interior design assistance.
In 2017, I started to work more with private clients and my realtor friend asked me for some staging help with her listing. This launched my staging business where I started to work with local realtors in preparing a client’s home for sale. I currently operate a 3 part business which includes staging homes for sale, working with private clients for their personal spaces and working with brands in showcasing their products as an influencer.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Everything just happened organically. I was a stay at home mom for almost ten years and my youngest was still only one at the time I published my first blog post. I had a lot of creative energy that needed an outlet and the blog became the platform to do just that. I’m not tech savvy so everything has been a learning curve. I had no idea how to use power tools and I have learned to start with basic ones for a variety of projects. I am still learning how to operate a business since I do it all of it myself with some assistance from my husband. I feel incredibly lucky to do what I love and juggling that along with my main responsibilities as a wife and mom has been a learning process.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
My business is threefold. I stage homes before they go on the market for clients in my local area. I also work with private clients to help with design services in their home. Lastly, I work with different brands that I love and showcase their products to my readers and followers.
I am most proud of the fact that I get to be the voice behind my brand. I had no formal training in design and I have gained confidence in creating a home that my family loves. I believe our homes should serve as our sanctuary and a place that provides rest, joy and energy to go out into the world. I love being able to help others create this in their homes as well.
I’m also proud of being a woman of color in this industry and having a voice. It’s not easy being a minority in this field but I believe there is value in representation.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up, Korean American meant that I was encouraged to be either a lawyer or doctor. I shadowed a surgeon in high school and realized I had too much of a weak stomach to handle that type of profession. I grew up taking Taekwondo throughout most of my childhood and have always been very active. I think my love of interior design stemmed from my mom always making us move around pieces of furniture around the home because she loved creating new looks. I read a lot and loved doing things with my hands like scrapbooking. I grew up with one sister and two brothers. We had a far from perfect home but my parents instilled in us the love of family so we have a close relationship as adults.
