Meet Zachary Curtis of Decatur/Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Zachary Curtis

Hi Zachary, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I was born and raised in Decatur, Georgia. Since I was a child, I was always around different forms of art and music. In childhood, a few of my hobbies and interests included: writing, food, drawing, traveling, arts and skateboarding. My parents and others around me encouraged me to be myself. Around the age of 14, I started DJing. Djing helped me to learn business, expand my creativity, travel, connect, and spread joy. I attended and graduated from the University of West Georgia with a Bachelors in Marketing. While in college, I had the opportunity to be in a different environment with more diversity, got to assist first-year students as a peer mentor and learn more about the world. With expression being an area that has always needed improvement, it inspired me to experiment in other areas. Lots of love, support, experimenting, and growth have brought me to where I am today.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Paved roads all start from dirt or some roughness. The road has always played out in my favor. This is not to say that it’s always been smooth. Whether it’s wins or losses, we’re able to learn from everything. Patience, work, integrity, and finding what works for me have been a big help. A big struggle for me has been indecision. When you’re talented at a lot of things, it can be difficult to find a balance and remain focused on one thing. 2022 was the year that I learned of this indecision and started losing interest in and reexamining lots of things. Experiencing anxiety and depression revealed to me how important it is to take care of yourself and to take things one step at a time. Self-criticism has been a struggle where I would be hard on myself. Another struggle along the way is finding your people and community. It’s always been easy for me to meet people. Over the years, I’ve questioned what real love and community (outside of family, friends, loved ones) look like. Part of this told me that the best things happen organically. I’d also add that learning how you best communicate and learning this art comes in handy along the way.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a creative or what many would call a “jack of many trades” and versatile. I DJ, inspire, write, and capture visuals. I have experience with sales and providing quality wellness/uplifting products and experiences. I’m proud of how far I’ve come and doing my best over the years. I’ve been self-taught and received countless knowledge and wisdom from others. My smile, adaptability, passion, fast-learning and creativity are factors that set me apart from others. I love adding my unique touch to things and bringing joy to the people and myself.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
This is a great question! If I had to say this in one phrase it would be feeling good. When you feel good, you’re able to bring this goodness into whatever you do. Satisfaction is related to happiness. When not feeling good or your best, there’s always something good. The small things matter too and usually have the most significance for happiness. I’ve noticed myself finding joy in things like gratitude, quality time & experiences, good environments, making others smile and brightening their days, feeling the warm sun on my skin, and receiving praise, appreciation and recognition.
