Meet Zenia Jiménez of Zen Aesthetics

Today we’d like to introduce you to Zenia Jiménez

Hi Zenia, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey into esthetics started with my own struggles with dry, sensitive skin, and eczema. I remember using so many products back in the day, thinking the burning sensation meant they were working, (yikes lol) if only I knew better! That experience sparked my interest in skincare and eventually led me to pursue a career as an esthetician. In 2017 I became a licensed esthetician. I started my career in Southern California, working in a beachside spa and waxing center where I gained hands on experience. From there, I moved to the DC area, where I had the opportunity to become a wax trainer, teaching estheticians the art of waxing. This experience help sharpen my skills and deepened my understanding of the industry.

During the COVID lockdown, like many people, I found myself reflecting and wanting to grow. I used that time to take several advanced classes and expand my knowledge in esthetics, preparing myself for what I knew would one day be my own business. In fact, the vision for Zen Aesthetics had been in my heart since 2019! I wanted to create a space where everyone could feel comfortable and confident. However, life’s twists and turns ( including COVID) meant I had to put that dream on the back burner as something for “someday.”

In 2022, I moved to Conyers, Georgia, and found myself searching for jobs locally. I hesitated when it came to commuting into Atlanta daily (anyone familiar with ATL traffic can relate lol) But as I searched for local opportunities, I noticed a gap in the market, many places lacked the professionalism and knowledge I valued. The ideal work placed weren’t hiring, and that’s when it hit me…why not bring Zen Aesthetics to life right here? With the support of my boyfriend and my child, I took the leap and decided to turn my long held dream into a reality.

Today, Zen Aesthetics is my pride and joy. I specialize in sensitive skin, barrier repair, and Brazilian waxing, offering a judgment-free, relaxing environment where clients can feel their most confident. My goal has always been to empower my clients, and I’m excited to continue doing that each and every day.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
’s definitely been a journey with its fair share of bumps! One of the biggest challenges came with the uncertainty of moving to Georgia. I had dreamt of starting Zen Aesthetics as early as 2019, but I didn’t want to launch in my hometown, knowing I was going to move again.

And then moving to GA,I found myself in a brand new place with no family or friends around. I decided to take a leap of faith and bring my dream to life here (sometimes I still ask myself, “What was I thinking?” lol) But trusting my gut, my vision, and my skills as an esthetician is what got me to where I am today.

Another challenge has been balancing family life while running a fully self-funded business. Everything from financing to finding clients has been on my shoulders, which is no small feat. As a Latina and a small business owner, I’m incredibly proud of the journey I’ve taken. It hasn’t always been easy, but starting from scratch in a new state has made me more resilient, and it’s taught me to trust in myself, my abilities, and the vision I’ve had for Zen Aesthetics from the beginning.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
At Zen Aesthetics, my mission is to create a welcoming space where you can feel confident in your skin. I specialize in customized skincare treatments, especially for those with sensitive skin and barrier repair, and I also provide body waxing and specialize in Brazilian waxing. I incorporate Korean skincare products into my treatments, which are known for their innovative ingredients and effectiveness.

What sets Zen Aesthetics apart is my commitment to education. I love connecting with my clients, whether they’re here for a facial or waxing. I take the time to answer any questions they have about their skin or current skincare routines, helping them understand how to best care for their unique needs. This personalized attention not only builds trust but also empowers clients to make informed decisions about their skincare, leading to better outcomes and a more confident approach to their routines.

As a Latina small business owner, I’m proud to offer a space where you feel welcomed. I strive to create an environment where clients feel comfortable asking questions and sharing their concerns. It’s not just about the services; it’s about building relationships and fostering a sense of community.

I want readers to know that at Zen Aesthetics, you’ll receive not just top-notch skincare and waxing services, but also the knowledge and support to help you shine from the inside out. I genuinely care about each client’s experience and am here to help you achieve your skincare goals, whatever they may be.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
Definitely! I rely on a mix of apps, podcasts, and educational resources that keep me inspired and informed.

Spotify is a favorite of mine because it allows me to listen to a variety of podcasts. I enjoy both skincare related shows and fun ones like The Comment Section. I also have specific playlists for my waxing and facial services to keep the mood just right during treatments (and my personal ones too!)

When it comes to skincare education, Hale and Hush is a standout. They offer fantastic classes and maintain a blog that keeps me updated on the latest in skincare. I also love By Kin Aesthetics for my Korean skincare products; their PDFs and blogs help me understand how to use the products effectively in my treatments. I appreciate how many professional skincare brands focus on education, helping us to troubleshoot and adapt products for clients’ needs.

I also keep in touch with my esthetics school classmates, and we share ideas and resources frequently. Plus, I’ve built a network of estheticians on Instagram where we exchange our latest skincare finds and product launches, or share our experiences with whatever company we dm each other lol.

For a break from work related content, I enjoy using Libby to read and listen to audiobooks from my local library. While it’s tough to pick a favorite book, An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir has really stuck with me.
