Meet Zy’Keria Kinder of Stylezbyzye in Midtown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Zy’Keria Kinder.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Zy’Keria. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My Nona and mom did hair years back, so when I was younger, of course, I would practice different braided hairstyles on my dolls. So wanting to take after my role models, of course, I stumbled across a passion for hair. I did my friend’s hair occasionally, and it came to mind, why not take it to the next level, and start my own hair business. Through support from my family and friends, I now have a flourishing business.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Woo! Actually, it’s been quite the opposite. In the beginning, my confidence wasn’t as high, which led to impatience, lack of promotion, and low clientele. On top of that, I had to learn how to balance being a student and entrepreneur at the same time. But, I’ve definitely made progress. When I did box braids, it took me a whole day, no joke! Now it takes me less than 5-6 hours, while still maintaining quality. 😉 Patience is key.

Please tell us about Stylezbyzye.
Stylezbyzye is a business that specializes in natural hair care and braids. Most known for natural plaits, silk presses, and knotless braids, but I also service sleek ponytails, feedins, and box braids. Every style posted on my page is thoroughly practiced beforehand. Looking at my company now, I can say I’m most proud of the growth. My company took what I put into it and gave me much more than I could have hoped.

Stylezbyzye isn’t just a business to me. It’s a way of spreading confidence and self-love. Everyone identifies with that feeling after you get your hair done. 𝘐’𝘮 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘪𝘴𝘩! A lot of people express themselves through their hair, so when I do my clients’ hair, I try my best to amplify that feeling. I’m always open to hearing feedback because there will always be room for growth. Listening to what everyone has to say about my business. Different ways of promotion, ideas, and styles. I’m here for it!

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I would try to have more confidence in myself; obviously, hindsight is 2020, but that would definitely be a plus. Confidence has given be the ability to invest in my company by making business cards, promotion on various social media platforms, and having an investor of my own. He has promoted my business, given advice, and poured time, effort, and start-up capital into my business. So, shout out to him!
