Today we’d like to introduce you to Adriana Coleman.
Hi Adriana, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I decided to start making waist beads for myself just so I could track my waist while working out. While doing the research on who, what, when, where, and why, I came across multiple reasons for why women wear them. I found a Facebook group that had other women who had businesses and they welcomed me and taught me more. I started to research more and decided to start a business with a friend of mine. She found a job and decided that she wanted to focus on other things but I wanted to continue this because it made me feel really good especially since it was helping women with their self-confidence and uplifting them with body positivity. So now I’m in year two of business and I have been able to preach body positivity to all women of different sizes, shapes, and colors. I get to tell them that we are divinely created and no one can tell us differently. I also started creating bracelets, anklets, and other jewelry items because I wanted to appeal to others who may have not wanted to wear my semi-permanent strands. All of my pieces are unisex and have stones and crystals that I use for their metaphysical healing properties.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been easy at all and still isn’t. I have people who try to associate me with other people that have different views and opinions, that they lose sight to the reason why I create these pieces. Then trying to find my clients and trying to explain that it is not just fashion but tools to make you feel beautiful inside and out. It was more difficult for me to market and come up with those innovative ideas to bring in more people. I decided, recently, to get certifications and go deeper so that I can benefit the growth of ACSquared Jewelry.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in intentional ties on waist beads to assist women to return back to loving the bodies they have now. I have been so proud of myself and stepping out on faith to help change how women feel about themselves while doing the same for me. This is also what sets me apart. Others in my area are not thinking about the bigger picture and that is helping women by uplifting them more.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I want to continue to help women but also create a safe space for them to not feel judged for anything. I also want to be a seed bead wholesaler for other beaders. So a nice storefront to allow me to do all of this together. And it’s all wrapped in love ❤️
