Rising Stars: Meet Alex Culberson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alex Culberson.

Hi Alex, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I am a filmmaker, and I’ve made films ever since I was in middle school and high school. I now go to scad in Atlanta and getting a BFA in film production. I have started my own film production company where I specialize in short-form content and hope to eventually expand to longer-form content like feature films.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been that easy. I have spent years learning my craft and trying to perfect it.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a film producer and director. I create content for small businesses and specs for larger brands. I as well create short films that usually has an underlined theme of what brotherhood is. Right now, I am working on a sci-fi dystopian short film called 2142: The Remains of Tomorrow, which takes place one hundred and twenty years in the future that involves mutant creatures and robots.

We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
Film is a very collaborative process. With Covid, it opened new doors with collaboration with zoom. But also since you couldn’t go out and still have to work on your craft, you learn all the other department parts like sound, editing, color grading, and camera operation. This helped a lot due to being able to learn more about each job since having to do it myself, and now I can communicate more amongst the team I work with now.
