Rising Stars: Meet Alexis Chester

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexis Chester.

Hi Alexis, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’ve always been interested in taking photos ever since Myspace days but the quality of my photos was not always the greatest. In college, I asked my dad for a professional camera in which I used the camera to always take photos of myself for social media. There came a time when my brother was about to graduate from college and he could not find anyone to take his graduation pictures so I decided to use him for my first photoshoot. Shortly after, my best friend let me take photos of her and her daughter. After utilizing social media and posting both of those photo shoots, that is when I started getting paid to take pictures. I went to college for Fashion Merchandising and never thought that I wanted to be a photographer. When I first started taking pictures, it was for fun and because I liked how it made my family and friends feel to have good quality images of great moments in their lives. I worked in corporate after college and the more photography booking I received, the more I wanted to change career paths.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, it has not been a smooth road. I did not go to school for this so it was a challenge teaching myself everything about photography like how to edit, what systems to use, marketing, branding, as well as how to run a business. I’m still learning. I never had a mentor in this field or someone to coach me.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a branding and event photographer. I capture images for entrepreneurs and influencers who want to showcase their brand and what they do as well as events. I also capture engagements. I feel that my drive sets me apart from others. I don’t feel that there is anything in this field that I can’t do or learn. When I put my mind to something, I’m going to do it. And that is what I’m most proud of. Being able to transform a thought or idea to reality.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Professionalism.
