Today we’d like to introduce you to Ambria Carpenter.
Hi Ambria, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
After I obtained my Master’s Degree I realized I still wasn’t fulfilled and knew that there was more I wanted to accomplish. I wanted to start my own business but didn’t know exactly what I was most passionate about. Growing up, I was always complimented on my long natural eyelashes but never thought It would lead me to where I am today.
From a young age, I’ve always loved makeup. I would ask my mom to buy me the fake makeup kits from the stores when I saw them. I fully dove into makeup when I turned 21. Thanks to the tips and tricks from friends and MUA’s along the way, my makeup collection and skills have evolved immensely. Although my eyelashes are naturally long, I always wanted more drama to finish my look. I feel that no glam makeup look is complete without faux eyelashes. They are the cherry on top!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Starting my own business has not been an easy road. When I was ready to begin, I had no idea where to start. I got a lot of advice from my female friends who are entrepreneurs. They gave me a lot of tips and tricks to get started. I was unaware of the steps I needed to take to actually make my businesses legit. They helped me with filing my LLC, registering my domain, obtaining business credit, and more. Staying motivated has been my biggest struggle. I still work a regular 9-5 so making the time for my own business after working all day takes dedication.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I come from a small town, so when I moved to Atlanta, it was a culture shock. I began seeing women who looked like me embracing their natural hair and beauty. As a makeup lover, I am an advocate for enhancing natural beauty. During the pandemic, I started Mynk Pynk with a vision which was reoccurring, I took that as a sign to live out my dream. In current times that require us to wear masks, I knew the best way for women to still feel beautiful would be through their eyes.
I didn’t know where to begin but I knew I wanted to sell beauty products and I knew I wanted to start my store with eyelashes. I came up with my business name from my favorite color and my childhood nickname. I changed the I’s to Y’s for a different effect, and Mynk Pynk was born! I’m also obsessed with pineapples so I incorporated that into my logo as well.
I have an online store that provides various types of eyelashes and makeup tools. I sell 3D faux Mynk and 25mm Mynk Lashes. I also sell eyeliner glue pens which is an easier way to apply your lashes than traditional glue, especially for beginners. We just celebrated our one year anniversary on October 10th.
How do you think about luck?
I don’t believe in luck, I believe in favor. I pray over everything I do. Prayer & faith plays a major role in my life and has spilled over into my business. My business is an extension of my faith. Eight years ago, I stepped out on faith to begin a new life in a new city. I moved to Atlanta with only clothes, my tv and savings. Every ‘No” I’ve heard along the way, I’ve used as a stepping stone. If something didn’t happen for me, it was for a reason and I wait until it’s my season. Since then, I have purchased a home, started a business and made meaningful connections with new people.
