Today, we’d like to introduce you to Bellogod.
Bellogod, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My name is BELOVED DELADEM WEGBE, am an Afrobeat artist from Ghana with the stage name BELLOGOD.
I was born and raised by my parents (JOHN YAVA WEGBE) is my dad, and (PATIENCE GAKPETOR) who is also my mom, in a town called [Keta] on the 3rd of September 2003 in the Volta region of Ghana. I stayed with my grandmom in the Volta region, where I schooled to SHS level. When I left Keta for Accra, I attended Shalom Shalom Preparatory School for my basic education, then moved further and completed Threetown Senior High.
I discovered my musical abilities in [JHS1] in the Volta region of Ghana, but it wasn’t that serious; it was just about doing freestyles and rapping to my colleagues in class. But serious music started for me in [SHS1] when I went on a battle with one of my mates in school, and he won me; it made me work harder and learn more skills in music, which I apply to my craft now… I wrote more songs and rehearsed more just to win the guy that won me in the battle, but going on, I realized that I learned a lot more than I thought I would, and started getting good comments from people around me whenever I do freestyles.
I recorded my first song in [SHS2], where I had to wake up early in the morning and go to a recording studio close to our house to sweep a sound engineer’s room just to hang around to see how people recorded when they came to the studio. I recorded my song when I was done learning how to record, and I was very impressed, though I knew my parent didn’t approve of me making music then because they believed musicians were bad people in terms of their lifestyle.
It got to a time when I couldn’t believe that my first song was making waves, and everyone was commenting that that particular song was for [REMA], an A-list artist in Nigeria who made a lot of hit songs and waves. That feeling alone triggered the decision to make my music a lifetime career, and here I am now. I signed up for CAPTURED ATL RECORDS, and we have a lot of projects to drop this year. My first EP containing five hot songs will be released on March 21st, 2024.
I’m looking forward to releasing more hits.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It wasn’t easy for me to choose this career without having no funds, support, and an investor; music doesn’t pay from the start.
It’s not a job that can generate little funds for you from the start to be able to reinvest and keep it moving, so me starting without a team and an investor from the very beginning was a very, very tough decision on the journey. Still, luckily, I came across Captured Atl Records, and things are moving smoothly now.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
To be precise, Bellogod is a musical artist, songwriter, and performer from the west coast of Africa (Ghana).
I’m an Afrobeat artist who’s been on this journey for a while now and feels like raising the bar this year, so I’m dropping a self-titled EP on the 21st of March, 2024. It feels good to be here, but it feels much better to be here as Bellogod, and I’m proud.
What makes you happy?
Music because it’s just something I love genuinely anc unconditionally, weather in a bad or good mood I still like to hear the voices of the people I love through their music and me realizing people love me too I do it same thing so they can also hear my voice even if their far from me.
Another thing is everyone has their angle or perspective they view life; others communicate what they think life is about and their point of view through books. But I chose to communicate my perspective through my music.
