Rising Stars: Meet Benga Tribe of varies

Today we’d like to introduce you to Benga Tribe

Hi Benga, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
First I’d like to thank VoyageATL Magazine for reaching out for the interview very unexpected and I am grateful just around the time of me releasing two full albums back to back, “Giant Over Descend” and “Feeling Ah Way (Complete Edition).” Let’s take it back to 1998 in New York City where I grew and spent a majority of my life. I grew up at 790 Eldert Lane Brooklyn NY 11208 there’s a fire fighter house around the block. When I was in elementary I used to walk home and always need to use the bathroom before I got home and they let me use their bathroom they was cool. New York has a lot of culture my neighborhood had a handful of some influential people in my journey; I visit several times a year depending on the year and planning a trip right now. I come from a home of two outspoken Nigerian parents divorced but came to this country and did a lot for a little to raise my siblings and me. I was different from the start I spent a lot of time on the balcony looking at the world and thinking about where I’d go, looking at planes and cars pass I was on the 15th floor of a skyscraper. I always loved music so becoming an artist was almost natural especially since I wrote, danced and performed musically from an early age in public school. High school I designed and sold hoodies as a start up brand, did a few dance classes and performed solo and group shows, I also use to rap in class and around the school with a few homies. I did love a good party and I had the type of freedom Ye describes my senior year so it was lit! I am versatile and my focus has always leaned toward fashion, music and lifestyle. I love to motivate God motivates me! I know the feeling of not thinking it’d go any further and now I want to push it as far past it because you limit yourself by thinking there is a limit. As an artist one of my greatest gifts is my keen observation and being able to detail how I feel, felt and take you along for a ride in my wheels for a few minutes or get you turnt outside, at the gym or the club.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My life is a testimony of struggles I made it out of situations that many do not and I am grateful to God, my family and community. I’ve been targeted, racial profiled, robbed, drugged, wrongfully arrested, hospitalized and more. I still don’t have a dull outlook on life or the challenges given for me to improve I’m ready for more.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I make music, cloths and films. Known for my off the wall like energy of expression, confidence and leadership. I am proud of my wife and I, we’re newly wed. What sets me apart? I am young, hungry and ahead of my time.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
My never give up attitude it paid off way more than I’d have ever anticipated.
