Rising Stars: Meet Briana Avalos

Today we’d like to introduce you to Briana Avalos.

Briana Avalos

Hi Briana, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I like to think of my story as something straight out of a movie, the good, bad, and hilarious. I have memories that have been nothing short of beautiful. I’ve endured immense adversity, and I’ve build friendships and surrounded myself with people whom I wouldn’t trade for the world. I’m a firm believer that we get to write our own stories, and so far, I think mine has been one for the books, literally! Today, I embrace my story and the path I’ve traveled so far. It’s surely shaped me into the person I am today, and I’m looking forward to wherever I head next.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
My experience has been far from smooth. As I began to build my career and pursue art as my work, I stumbled upon struggles surrounding family and the place I used to call home. The loss of my mom was a major event that shifted the projection of everything in my life. But I know she’s looking out for me, and I aim to make her proud. Now, more than ever, I focus my life and goals on people because at the end of the day, all we have is each other.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
At this point in my life, my art is fueled by the food and beverage industry! I work as a creative at a local brewery here in Savannah, GA and I adore my work! I get to shoot photos of our delicious beers, create content for our social media, and connect with thousands through email marketing, and I get to do it all with our little brew cat in my lap! It took some trial and error to figure out what little niche of work made me most happy, and the alcohol industry specifically fits my personality very well. There is so much character and voice behind a brand like this, and I really get to have fun and create beautiful work. I have furthered my work in this industry through my freelance work, where I have created branding for other local food and beverage businesses. I’m so proud to be able to bring my client’s visions to life and represent who they are. I also continue to be an active member of the service industry, serving at a local upscale restaurant. Being on the ground and working in the industry is really important for me because the connections I make and the ever-changing restaurant experience inspire the creative work that I love to do. I want to continue to create work and build relationships with other professionals in this industry, and I cannot wait to see what I get to work on in the future!

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I don’t really give luck too much credit in my life. While I’ve had good and bad experiences over time, I really believe that we are the masters of our own path and our choices guide where our lives head next. I work really hard and I am eternally grateful for how much I’ve learned along the way. Maybe my “lucky break” will come along someday, but for now, I’m gonna keep grinding and depend on myself for what I want next in life.
