Rising Stars: Meet Britny Hartfield of Augusta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Britny Hartfield.

Hi Britny, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
When my child was diagnosed with ADHD (Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder), both of us faced numerous challenges. My child struggled to focus, control impulses, and manage emotions, which made daily activities, especially at school, incredibly tough. As a parent, I felt overwhelmed, isolated, and often unsure of how to best support my child. It was difficult to watch my child be misunderstood by teachers and peers, and I too, felt the weight of those challenges.

However, over time, I began to realize that ADHD didn’t define my child’s abilities or potential. It was then that I wrote my first children’s book, hoping to not only share our journey but to make ADHD more relatable and understandable for kids, parents, and teachers. The process of writing the book helped me find clarity and strength, and it became a catalyst for something bigger.

Inspired by the positive response to the book and driven by the desire to make a broader impact, I decided to start a nonprofit organization focused on raising awareness about ADHD. My goal was to create a supportive community for parents and teachers, offering resources, education, and a safe space where we could share experiences and solutions.

Through this nonprofit, I want to help others understand that children with ADHD have unique strengths and talents, and with the right support, they can succeed. The nonprofit and my children’s book are both part of my mission to ensure that no parent or teacher feels alone in navigating the challenges of ADHD. It’s my way of turning our struggles into strength and giving back to others who are facing similar paths.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, it hasn’t been a smooth road. Starting a nonprofit and writing a children’s book about ADHD came with its own set of challenges.

One of the biggest struggles was finding the balance between supporting my child and managing everything else—like writing, organizing the nonprofit, and making sure the message was clear and helpful for others. There were moments of self-doubt, wondering if I was doing enough, or if I was on the right path. Writing a book, especially about such a personal topic, was emotionally taxing at times. I wanted to be honest and authentic in sharing our story but also wanted to make sure it would resonate with others and provide value. And of course, there’s always the challenge of changing perceptions. ADHD is still widely misunderstood, and it’s not always easy to convince people to see ADHD as a condition that requires understanding, not just discipline. Convincing schools, teachers, and communities to be more supportive took time and persistence.

But despite the struggles, every step forward, every person helped, and every positive change in a child’s life has made it all worth it. The journey has taught me resilience, patience, and how important it is to keep pushing forward, even when things get tough.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m passionate about supporting children with ADHD and their families, and my journey has led me to create a nonprofit focused on raising awareness and providing resources for parents and teachers. Through this work, I aim to bridge the gap between understanding ADHD and offering practical support to those who need it most. I also authored a children’s book to help kids understand ADHD in a relatable way, which has been a meaningful step in sharing our story and fostering greater empathy.

What sets me apart is the unique combination of my personal experience as a parent of a child with ADHD, my professional background, and my drive to make a lasting impact. I hold a bachelor’s in business management and a master’s in information systems, which gives me the skills to effectively run and grow a nonprofit. My professional work at Hull Property Group, one of the largest commercial real estate companies, has also given me invaluable experience in project management, strategy, and leadership, which I apply to the nonprofit’s operations.

I’m most proud of the fact that I’ve been able to take personal struggles and turn them into something positive—not only for my family but for others. Whether it’s through the nonprofit’s initiatives, my book, or the educational resources we provide, knowing that we’re making a difference in the lives of children with ADHD and their families is incredibly fulfilling.

What truly sets me apart is my dedication to combining real-world experience with a deep understanding of ADHD. I approach the challenges with a blend of empathy, strategy, and a focus on practical solutions. By using my business and tech background, I’m able to make the nonprofit’s impact more scalable and sustainable, all while staying deeply connected to the people we serve.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
I believe the most important quality to my success is resilience. Throughout my journey, whether it was navigating the challenges of raising a child with ADHD, writing a book, or starting a nonprofit, resilience has been my driving force. It’s about staying committed even when the road gets tough, learning from setbacks, and continuing to push forward with a sense of purpose.

Alongside resilience, empathy has played a crucial role. Understanding the struggles of both my child and other families dealing with ADHD has been a foundation for everything I do. It’s allowed me to build connections, offer support, and create resources that truly meet the needs of those I’m helping.

Lastly, my background in business management and information systems has provided me with the skills to turn my vision into something tangible. Combining empathy with strategic thinking allows me to create practical solutions that make a real difference.

Together, these qualities have helped me overcome obstacles and build something meaningful that can help others.
