Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Kennedy.
Hi Brittany, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
This little business started almost 6 years ago when I was in college. I “stole” my mom’s camera to capture things me and my sorority sisters were getting into. Turns out I had an eye for capturing life’s little moments. I started off like most photographers do. Free sessions, model calls, etc. and I fell in love with everything about the job. I loved meeting the people, being creative with the editing, and everything in between.
When COVID hit, I lost my corporate job and my husband convinced me to go full-time in my business. It was March and he knew that it was prime time for seniors. I LOVED being full-time, I met so many people and did so many sessions / styled shoots/weddings. It was so fun. However, I am not one to stay at home 24/7, so after a year and a half, I got bored and decided to use my major. I took a special needs teaching job and have been doing photography on the side ever since. Honestly, photography still feels like my full-time job with how busy it keeps me!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I would say for the most part, it’s been extremely smooth. I am very blessed to have such great clients and now friends in the business. Some of the biggest struggles were when I first went full-time. Navigating owning my own business in the midst of a global pandemic…… probably not the smartest idea. However, I am very lucky with my support system. They helped me when I needed it, guided me through the legality of a business, and overall let me cry or laugh when the time came.
Now that COVID is behind us, the struggles are very few and far between. The struggles that do arise are typically those that come from within. The burnout, the exhaustion, etc. When I am struggling, I like to take some time off, lean on my family, and sometimes even just do a free session to get some creative juices flowing.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am an Atlanta-based photographer serving inside and outside of the perimeter. I specialize in high-school seniors, couples, and weddings. I feel like I am most known for keeping these natural and real. I like to say my style is real and unposed. I typically will give a direction of what I think looks best, but then let my client’s personality come out. I am most proud of my ability to make a friend after every session. I love keeping up with my seniors as they go to college and love watching my couple’s life moments.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
First off, the most important thing that makes me happy is my family and friends! The two most important people are definitely my husband and our new baby. They are simply the glue that keeps me together and the reason I keep going in this business! They push me to be a better business owner, friend, and person in general. As for what makes me happy in my business, it is the joy of delivering unique, natural, and meaningful images to each and every one of my clients. The end result of each session is what makes me the happiest. Knowing that I connected with my clients on a personal level and delivered the best images possible to make their time with me meaningful is what brings me the most joy! I am the happiest when I end each session with a new friend.
