Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany McDowell.
Hi Brittany, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
The sole purpose of me starting my business was for me to bring better professionalism and quality behind my brand. I wanted women of color to be more uplifted and create a space where they can feel beyond beautiful no matter what services they were getting. I also wanted my business to mean something in the black community, I wanted my two nieces to have something that they can have to benefit from by the time there old enough to make their on decisions. I wanted to create more generational wealth for them. While I provide services as a MUA and provide a luxury quality hair extensions product, Allure Galòre Beautè && Allure Galòre Beautè Exts both fall under the same LLC it’s not like any other brand at all. We want our clients and customers to feel beautiful and again can be themselves on both sides of the business.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
No, as a matter of fact I always said that once I had my shot at really telling my story I was always going to remain truthful about the journey”. So truthfully it was so hard getting started, battling the thoughts of if people are going to support me or not, or taking your business seriously. Then there was going through all the ropes of making sure everything is done correctly, I mean I failed so many times, cried over my business, and was frustrated. I also saw how success can open your eyes to people who were never for you or may not support you like others, maybe even down talk you and everything your business to the point your not sure if you want to have your business anymore, and in this situation it will be your close friends and family members, while that is unfortunate it’s the harsh truth of reality. Not having investors, or so much money laying around to take off within that first year I mean it’s a lot. I was also in school working on graduating at the time as well because that was just as equally important and working full-time until being laid off, I mean so much stress and a huge workload but I got it all done. While my journey is still growing, there is still a long hard road ahead of me. I still kept going no matter the odds I was faced with because I know god wouldn’t put this in my heart or my mind all these years just to give up because everything was getting hard. I had absolutely NO HELP, but I pushed through because it’s always the goal to reach the other side.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in natural makeup on one side of my business and the other side I sell luxury hair extensions. I have been doing makeup since I was in 9th grade, and I started out doing it for free for a long time but everybody around me saw and knew my potential. I invested in myself even more when I had the opportunity to want to start taking clients, even though I am experienced and I have been in the game for over 10 years now I always try to stay up on what’s fresh and new. Makeup isn’t a necessity but it’s another way to show creativity and everlasting beauty. I stick to the natural look because while still looking like yourself, your look is more enchanted for everybody to see. My hair company was a new venture I stepped into and I wanted to provide everything correctly I mean great customer service the whole nine. I had my vendor for over a year because I wanted to really study the quality of the bundles to make sure it was a good fit for myself and my clients. I know personally I would never invest into anything I wouldn’t by myself so I knew that I wanted to always buy what was the best of the best and god blessed me with that in my first year. We have only been in business 4 months now but we have made so much progress with more progress too tackle!
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
To always keep pushing no matter what, always be positive for the sake of your business no matter the circumstances. I also learned that having the relationship with God is very important just to protect yourself, mind, body, and spirit, along with your brand business as well. Lastly, go always have faith and trust your process. Never quit.
