Rising Stars: Meet Brittany Spencer of Conyers

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Spencer.

Brittany , we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’ve always known that writing was my calling. From an early age, I had a passion for storytelling and dreamed of becoming a writer for major magazines. So, I pursued that dream by studying Print Journalism at Rust College, where my foundation in the craft began. After graduation, I took the next step by heading to the University of Mississippi (OleMiss) to earn a MA in Journalism, with an emphasis in Integrated Marketing Communications. I was determined to break into the world of writing and magazines, but life had a different plan.

Instead of magazines, my career took a turn toward Public Relations, where I became the Director of Public Relations at Rust College. In this role, I continued to write—publishing articles, leading media campaigns, and shaping the narrative of the college. It wasn’t the magazine world I had envisioned, but it was a powerful platform that still allowed me to pursue my love for writing. It was also during this time that I became an author, publishing three books—each one an extension of my voice and the lessons I learned along the way.

However, after a few years in PR, life called me back to Georgia. I moved there with hopes of finding a job in my field, but the search proved challenging. I had to pivot once again. In the meantime, I started subbing as a teacher, and what began as a temporary solution quickly turned into something much more meaningful. I fell in love with teaching. The connection with the students, the impact I could make in their lives, and the fulfillment of helping them grow—teaching became my new passion, and I decided to become an educator.

Moving back to Georgia also brought a blessing I could never have imagined my son, who became the light of my world. His arrival sparked a new chapter in my creative journey. I started an Instagram page to showcase his fashion, and in doing so, I reignited my love for content creation. From there, I began exploring other creative outlets, including podcasting, where I could share my voice, connect with others, and build a community around shared experiences.

Although I’ve found fulfillment in teaching and content creation, my first love journalism still calls to me. I’m on a journey to reconnect with it, searching for ways to blend my passion for writing with the work I’m doing now. My story is one of evolution, reinvention, and finding purpose in unexpected places. Through it all, I’ve learned that while the path may not always go as planned, it always leads to growth, new discoveries, and opportunities to make an impact.

Now, I continue to embrace the creativity that flows through me whether through teaching, content creation, or podcasting while keeping my eyes on the goal of returning to journalism in a way that feels true to who I am today.

Beyond writing and teaching, I am a content creator passionate about building community and engaging with creatives, mothers, and readers through social media. Recently, I launched a small weekly series titled Life with Us, featuring my funny and optimistic 4-year-old son who is hands-down the funniest kid ever. His personality shines through in each episode, bringing laughter and joy, and you can catch it every week on my Instagram page.

Whether through books, podcasts, or digital content, my mission is to spark meaningful conversations and empower others to own their narratives.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Not at all! My journey has been filled with challenges, but each one has played a role in shaping who I am today. Balancing motherhood, my passion for writing, education, and content creation hasn’t always been easy, especially while navigating personal and professional transitions. There were moments of self-doubt, financial hurdles, and times when I had to completely pivot my path.

In the publishing world, getting my books out there especially Read My Lips: My Pussy Is Not Your Concern—came with its own set of obstacles. Writing boldly about topics that challenge societal norms isn’t always met with open arms, but I’ve learned to stand firm in my voice. In education, being a leader and advocate for students while dealing with the complexities of the system has been equally rewarding and frustrating.

One of the biggest struggles of being an educator is feeling like you have to constantly monitor how you present yourself outside the classroom. People often forget that educators are human, too we have thoughts, emotions, and creative passions beyond teaching. There’s this expectation that we should always fit into a mold of professionalism, and stepping outside of that can feel risky. Whether it’s creating content, being vulnerable, or just showing up as my authentic self, I know there’s always a chance of criticism. But despite the challenges, I take those risks because I refuse to shrink myself to fit into a box that doesn’t fully represent who I am.

On top of that, being a mother adds another layer of complexity. Trying to juggle parenthood, my personal relationships, teaching, and creating a space for my creativity can be a beast. I get tired. I get overstimulated. I get frustrated. Putting in the work before, during, and after my job—only to not always see the engagement, shares, or following grow—can be discouraging. But through it all, I thank God for walking me through it. I know that everything I’m building will pay off in time, and that faith keeps me going.

Despite the struggles, I’ve embraced every setback as a setup for something greater. Above all, I’ve remained committed to my purpose whether that’s through storytelling, teaching, or inspiring others through my podcast and social media. The road hasn’t been smooth, but I wouldn’t trade the lessons I’ve learned along the way.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
At my core, I’m a storyteller. Whether through books, podcasting, or digital content, my work is centered around raw, unfiltered conversations that spark thought and challenge perspectives. I specialize in writing what is bold, honest, and deeply personal, whether it’s through my published books Naked the Unclothed Truth, No Commitment, and Read My Lips: My Pussy Is Not Your Concern—or the content I create on social media. My writing explores themes of self-discovery, relationships, empowerment, and the complexities of being a woman in today’s world.

One of my biggest creative ventures was launching my first podcast, Serving It Raw, where I had real, no-holds-barred conversations about life, relationships, self-love, and everything in between. It was a space where nothing was sugarcoated, and people could engage with topics in an honest and unfiltered way. That experience helped shape my voice as a content creator and led me to rebrand the platform into something even more intentional.

Now, I’m transitioning Serving It Raw: With a Side of Tea into a space dedicated to discussing the misconceptions surrounding public education. As someone who has been deeply involved in the system, I wanted to shift the conversation to something that is often misunderstood, shedding light on what really happens behind the scenes.

Beyond podcasting, I also recently launched Life with Us, a weekly Instagram series featuring my funny, energetic 4-year-old son, showcasing the beauty and chaos of motherhood in the most authentic way.

What sets me apart is my willingness to be vulnerable. I don’t shy away from topics that make people uncomfortable. I say the things people think but are too afraid to express. Whether it’s discussing personal growth, societal pressures, or the challenges of balancing motherhood and creativity, I create a space where transparency is valued.

I am incredibly proud to be the mother of the most amazing kid, and I’m equally proud of my ability to stay true to my voice despite the pressure to conform. In a world that often expects women especially mothers and educators to fit into a specific mold, I choose to break that mold every single day. I embrace the duality of being both a professional and a creative, a mother and a woman with her own dreams. For me, my work isn’t just about writing or creating content; it’s about inspiring others to own their truth unapologetically.

What are your plans for the future?
My plans for the future are all about growing closer to God, expansion and stepping deeper into my creative purpose. Writing has always been my foundation, and I want to continue building on that by writing more books and exploring new storytelling mediums. One of my biggest goals is to take classes in scriptwriting for TV shows and movies. I’ve always been fascinated by the idea of writing for major directors like Tyler Perry, and I want to create stories that resonate on screen just as powerfully as they do on paper.

Beyond that, I plan to open my own publishing company to help individuals bring their stories to life. So many people have powerful narratives to share but don’t know where to start, and I want to provide them with the tools, guidance, and platform to do it successfully.

Honestly, I have so many things in store for my creativity and brand. Might even consider becoming a fashion content creator or personal stylist. I like fashion and I like taking fashion risks. Every move I make is intentional because I’m not just creating for myself—I’m building an empire for my son. I want him to see firsthand what it means to dream big, work hard, and bring those dreams to life. I’m excited for what’s ahead, and I know this is only the beginning.
