Rising Stars: Meet BrownBone

Today we’d like to introduce you to BrownBone.

Hi BrownBone, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’m 27, from the soufside of Atlanta (clayco), I have two amazing kiddos and I’m a female artist. I’ve been rhyming since I was a child and that’s something I got from my oldest brother Dre. I’m also the only girl out of 3 boys so I always wanted to do everything they did. The inspiration to write music was all around me and it’s something I’m glad that came natural to me. I’ve had long nights in the clubs where I was told to be there at 10pm and I didn’t perform until 3am. Back then I enjoyed the late performances for the most part because the work part of having success was the part that gave me my first initial rush. Faith without work is DEAD so I’ll forever grind for what’s mine! In 2018 I took a break because life took a toll on me when I lost my mother. My son Daituan was in excellent hands with his dad while I was getting myself together. I will never forget how my child’s father stepped in and took a weight off my shoulders! I feel blessed to have chosen great fathers for my two! After my mom passed, I got pregnant with my daughter Kali and I was going through a rough patch. I had a few people who would let me crash on their couch and I’m forever grateful for them. I started feeling like I was a burden and since I was homeless at the time, I would sleep in my car because pride let me feel like that was all I had. Kali’s grandma let me come crash there as well until I felt I overstayed my welcome. At that point, it was just me, my car and my unborn baby in my stomach. Shortly after that, I was blessed with a place to live with my kids and my daughter’s father. He definitely helped make my transition smoother and my depression decrease. Once again, I’m thankful for the men I chose to be fathers! I gave birth to my princess and I started getting back into writing. Before I knew it, I was doing Freestyle Fridays on my Instagram and I’d let my followers tell me what they’d want me to cover next! From the freestyles, back to the studio, dropping DOPE visuals and now I’m on their playlist, this is what I grind for! I can’t wait until I can be able to give back to the hood that watched me grow up. Long nights that lead me to where I am now, STILL HUSTLIN!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Some struggles I went through and still currently go through is being overlooked by people because I’m not an artist who raps about sex 24/7. I feel like some labels and CEO’s go based off of numbers rather than talent which is fine because they can run their business however they like, I just think they miss out on a lot of very exceptional talent. The last struggle I want to touch base on is people not understanding our worth as artist. I take pride in everything I do because I feel that it’s my best. Other people feel like my talent is just something small until other people tell me I’m hard. I wish everyone was solid and could just rock out and support genuinely from the JUMP, don’t hop in the BrownBone bandwagon at the last minute!

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
As an artist, I do write ALL my music, I’m known for going as hard as the guys and I’m proud of my growth! The things my mother instilled in me can’t be bought or duplicated. That is what sets me apart from others!

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
I love spoken word, I find pleasure in reading a good book but getting money and being a dope mommy is all I really care about.
