Rising Stars: Meet Bryan Mcclure

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bryan Mcclure

Hi Bryan, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I actually never grew up wanting to be an actor. I had big plans to be a professional basketball player, but God had other plans. One summer during college, I was looking for a summer job and I saw something online that said, “Make money acting.” So I signed up (I highly recommend you vet these kinds of things thoroughly if you’re going to sign yourself up). I had completely forgotten that I even did that by the time I actually got a call from them. I even said to my roommates at the time that I thought I was getting a prank phone call. But ultimately, I went to the audition. It was for Windstream Communications and I ended up booking the job. I was in the commercial for all of 1 second, but it was a great experience. The call had come from a local talent agency in Omaha, NE and I told them I had a really great experience and I’d like to do more of it. Before I knew it, I was a background actor in a number of things, I found myself in a play and doing whatever film projects I could get myself involved in as well as I’d started taking some acting classes. About 2.5 years into this, I felt God calling me to move to Los Angeles to pursue acing professionally. Thankfully I listened and in 2009, I because my professional acting career. I spend a little over 6 years in LA before I felt a similar call on my life to move to Atlanta. So again, I packed my bags and have been in Atlanta since 2015. It’s been a wild journey, but I’m certainly thankful for it.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Smooth is far from the word that I’d use to describe my journey. In over 6 years in Los Angeles, I only booked 1 television job. And getting that one job was tough because I didn’t have an agent at the time. And with no TV credits on my resume, it wasn’t easy finding someone to represent me. When I was in Los Angeles and finally got representation, I went through 4 agents and 3 or 4 managers in just 6 years. And LA is an expensive city and I was broke. I lived in livingrooms for 3 years in LA. Sometimes, I’d go into the closet in the livingroom and bring a chair in there if I wanted some privacy. Often times, I didn’t know how I was going to pay for my bills, but God always provided for me.

Additionally, when I moved to Atlanta, I didn’t book anything my first year. I thought I’d heard God incorrectly, but after awhile, things really started hitting.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m most known for my work as an actor. I’ve done work on HBO’s “The Great Lillian Hall”, “The Walking Dead”, Ava Duvernay’s current film “Origin”, FX’s “Atlanta”, Netflix’s “Mindhunter”, Amazon Prime’s “The Summer I Turned Pretty” to name a few.

Additionally, I’ve been learning more about Writing, directing, and producing. And I also own a Web/Graphic Design business.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
That God’s in control. I don’t know how many times I’ve felt like I didn’t know how I was going to pay for things early on in my journey, but I was always provided for in this journey. I believe that if God wants you somewhere, He’ll provide for you to stay there if He needs you there, or He’ll redirect you down a different path.
