Today we’d like to introduce you to Candice Dean.
Hi Candice, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
The idea for Candi Warhol’s had been festering for several years before it came to be. My husband and I wanted to bring something different to the city of Covington that represented our passions that we felt many in our community shared. Our love of music, record collecting, artwork and skateboarding seemed under represented so we decided to bring it to the Covington Square in the form of a brick and mortar business. Since we have launched the response has been incredible and we have even been working with city officials to build a skatepark in the downtown Covington area.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
As with any small business nothing goes as swift or as smooth as one would wish. Setbacks in construction and permits are inevitable and, as we are self funded and did all the construction ourselves in between working our day jobs, it took a little longer than we would have liked to get open. However, other than some late nights and long weekends, it was a relatively smooth process.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
“Emerging just east of Atlanta, Georgia, Candice Dean is a mixed-media artist who specializes in abstract art. Her paintings represent the life experience through colors and textures applied with grace and rage. With echoes of emotion and mood, mindfulness and existentialism, nostalgia and bliss, her art is made whole by an underlayment of pain and sorrow. Many abstract works beg the question, “what do you see?” Candice’s work asks the viewer to contemplate the art to find what part of themselves they find within.”
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
Books are essential, Philosophy, history, and early 20th literature always keeps me sharp and offers a wide perspective on life. Writers like Albert Camus, Marcus Aurelius, John Steinbeck and Jack Kerouac to name a few. And of course, music biographies.
Podcasts certainly get us through the work day. Morbid, Tangentially Speaking and The Jasta Show are a few.
And music all the time.
