Rising Stars: Meet Caprice Williams

Today we’d like to introduce you to Caprice Williams.

Caprice Williams

Hi Caprice, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I occasionally go by C. Rose.

I started my career as a filmmaker when I studied and found how noncomplex it was. This was in 2020.

I started writing novels in 2012 when my Creative Arts teacher sparked a fire in me. My class was a group of troubled young adults – not knowing how to navigate our emotions properly or handle the traumas our parents inflicted onto us. Some of yall may have heard of the young people from my high school- “King Von”, “G-Herbo”, “King Louie” and or “FGB Duck”.

Their music was their outlet, their way out – mine came later in life, but what music does for them- writing does for me. It’s my therapy. My high school teacher, Mr. Freed, opened up an outlet for my overactive and overreactive attitude to be free. I didn’t have to fight someone in real life – I could do it on the pages. The rest was history.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
As I mentioned, I started writing in 2012, but I didn’t start writing again until 2018, and I didn’t produce anything until 2020!

Life started happening in High School, and I needed something more stable to provide. I was put out of my home at 15, and my housing was unstable until I was about 19. I always had a dog/hustle in me.

At 20, I got pregnant with my daughter, and five months into that pregnancy, I witnessed her father get shot two times (3 missed). One in the neck and one in the arm. I stood over his body, watching blood shoot out his neck, and I had my first REAL out-of-body experience.

I lost everything I built for myself- my apartment, my car, and my job. I had to go to a shelter where I had my daughter. I never felt so alone. Most importantly, I never stopped praying.

God turned my entire life around and delivered me – since then, I wrote and produced my first web series, “Journey” seasons 1 and 2, and wrote and produced my first short film, “With Us,” and my feature film, “Jada,” All glory to God!

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a writer, director and producer. I specialize in writing. I’m known for my web series “Journey,” which was recently converted into a feature and laid on TUBI.

I’m most proud of my short film “With Us” because it has the most passion in the film. I touched on a topic that I wish the black community would speak more on. This piece is about a young woman who was kidnapped and held captive in a basement next to a trap house!

What sets me apart from others is what sets us apart from all – my mind. My mind and my ideas are out of the box and deserve to be seen on the big screen- no whitewashing!

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
Check out my film on TUBI – JOURNEY, written and produced by Myself, Caprice Williams!
