Today we’d like to introduce you to Carly Gill.
Hi Carly, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
When I was in college, I was competing in pageants for scholarship money, so I was working out a lot to be in good shape for the swimsuit portion of competition. I developed a passion for working out and was getting a lot of inquiries about my regimen. I decided to get my ACE (American Council on Exercise) certification while I was still in school getting my BS in Journalism and Citizen Media. I was going to college full time, working part-time and going to night school for my certification. I started working at a gym as an administrative assistant and I saw that there were a lot of inquiries for in-home personal training. Once I got my certification, I put myself on a referral website and started answering inquiries for in-home training in the north-metro Atlanta area. While still in school getting my BS, I started my business and started building my clientele. Once I graduated, I was able to go full-time doing what I love! (never used that journalism degree I worked so hard for, LOL) I am so grateful for my business and all the clients I’ve had the opportunity to work with over the past eight years. Here’s to hoping for many more!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There are always struggles to owning a business and being self-employed. You learn as you go. One of the lessons I learned quickly was implementing a cancellation policy for two reasons – to hold my clients accountable to their workouts and to protect myself, time and income from cancellations.
Another struggle of mine is social media. If it wasn’t for my business, I wouldn’t have it at all. I know that people want to see content and learn, but it’s hard to find the time and motivation to do it when you’re a one man show.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a personal trainer specializing in concierge in-home training. This means I go to my clients- home gyms, condo and apartment gyms, office gyms, making it the most convenient way for them to get their workout in. I also help clients design their home gyms. Whether you have a full gym or no equipment at all, we can make it work! I love forming relationships with my clients and many have been with me since I started eight years ago.
Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
Be versatile. When covid started many of my clients didn’t feel comfortable with me coming to them anymore so I started offering virtual sessions. A pandemic is no excuse to not work out. Virtuals turned out to be a great option for many. During covid, I also gained new virtual clients from all over the country, and world!
Pricing:
- In-person workouts range from $80-120 per hour long session depending on my travel distance.
- Virtual sessions are $65 per hour long session.
